Anybody notice....That we can't catch Al-Qeada because they are so high tech that they have untraceable satellite phones and impenetrable multi-tiered cave systems that have enough food and fuel to last for 7 years now. But then the reason shifts that why we can't catch them is because they are so low tech and evade all these fancy gizmos we have set up all around the world to track people and those machines that would be keeping them alive in those caves.

Yanno the real reason we have been unable to find Al-Ciada? They are in Pakistan! Thank the heavens that Barack is not scared to take Pakistan head on with his quasi-....ultimatums.

چرا شاه عجله داشت به تمدن بزرگ برسد و چرا رضا شاه اصرار داشت راه آهن و هتل و ساختمان در ايران ساخته شود؟؟ چرا سختسر را که پر از پشه مالاريا بود را به رامسر که يک مرکز توريستی و آسايش بود مبدل کرد؟؟

کتاب خاطرات سلیمان بهبودی پیش خدمت رضاشاه را چنانچه نخواD9ده اید حتما بخوانید. چهره دیگری از رضاشاه در آن ترسیم شده است که با چهره ای که دشمنان ایران از این پادشاه خدمتگذار ترسیم کرده اند تفاوت دارد. برای این نوشته دو خاطره از آن کتاب را نقل می کنم :سلیمان بهبودی از یک شب عید که حقوق و پاداش اهل دربار داده می شد در حضور رضاشاه بود و صحبت شیرینی اضافه حقوق و عید شب عید از جانب سلیمان بهبودی مطرح می شود.

بهبودی می گوید وقتی که رضاشاه را سر کیف دیدم عرض کردم؛ قربان بین ما ایرانیان مثالی هست. فرمودند مثلا؟ عرض کردم می گویند از دریا چه یک جام آب برداری و چه یک جام آب بریزی فرقی نمی کند، خداوند به اعلیحضرت همایونی همه چیز داده و به اندازه یک مملکت بلژیک شاید بیشتر ملک و نقدینه داده است. به محض اظهار این مطلب چنان تغییر حال دادند که واقعا رنگ ص ورت برافروخته شد و سفیدی چشم به کلی تغییر کرد و ازپشت میز تحریر بلند شدند و آمدند وسط اتاق و چند بار نفس عمیق کشیدند، دستهای خود را به هم مالیدند و طوری تغییر حال دادند که حال سکته به بنده دست داد... ساکت و بی حرکت ایستادم.

بعد از اینکه چند مرتبه طول اتاق را قدم زدند و آههای سرد کشیدند با رنگ پریده به این شرح فرمودند؛ من خیال می کردم کارهایی که می کنم شماها که مثل پیراهن تن من می مانی د میدانید و به دیگران که نمی دانند می گویید؛ امشب فهمیدم که متاسفانه شما هم نمیدانید و خیلی باعث تاسف من شد. آن وقت به بنده نزدیکتر شدند تا حدی که نفس اعلیحضرت همایونی به بنده می خورد و سوال فرمودند؛ پدر شما مرده یا زنده هست؟ خواستم جواب بدهم خودشان فرمودند؛ میدانم، مرده. باز فرمودند ؛ چه ثروتی داشت؟ خودشان فرمودند میدانم چه داشت. میخواهم بگویم که وقت مردن من نیز مانند پدر تو خو7هم مرد؛ در وقت مردن دو ذرع و نیم چلوار خواهم برد، آنچه هست و من دارم همین جا می ماند. اینها که من دارم آبروری مملکت است. اگر منظور املاک است تمام شان می ماند. من می بینم صاحبان املاک مزوروعی به این خوبی اصلا به آنها توجه ندارند و بکلی ویرانه شده است... سرتاسر شمال بهترین املاک مزروعی است که میتوان از عایدات آن بودجه مملکت را تامین کرد. تو که جغرافیا و تاریخ خواندی می دانی سوئیس کجاست چه دارد،

آیا سوئیس مثل ما نفت دارد؟ معدن دارد؟ جز چند کارخانه ساعت سازی چیز دیگری دارد؟ هیچ میدانی مملکت به این کوچکی بودجه اش از بیشتر ممالک بزرگ بیشتر است؟ از کجا این عایدات را می آورد؟ فقط منظره های زیاد دارد، ولی آن منظره ها ر ا تمیز نگاه داشته و زینت کرده و وسیله آسایش برای جهانگردان تهیه کرده است. این است که از بیشتر نقاط دنیا جهانگردان در موقع معین پولهای خود را می برند 8 در آن جا خرج می کنند و بر می گردند. ما که هر گوشه از مملکت مان سوئیس است چرا وسیله تهیه نکنیم که از این پولها در مملکت ما هم خرج شود و استفاده ببریم؟

مگر فراموش کردید که من دستور دادم در مازندران به متمولین اطلاع دهند و اعلان کنند هرکس بهترین عمارات را که دارای تمام وسایل زندگی باشد بسازد من جایزه میدهم ولی کسی اقدام نکرد. منظورم این بود که اگر خارجی ها در ایران به شمال خواستند بر وند اقلا جای خواب راحتی داشته باشند به همین مناسبت دستور دادم کنار راه آهن نزدیک شهرها و قصبات عمارتهای کوچک بسازند. شنیده ام در سوئیس اگر کسی بخواهد جنگل ببیند باید برود به جایی و اگر دریا بخواهد ببیند برود جای دیگر و جلگه و دشت جای دیگر. اما در رامسر ما در یک نقطه که بایستد با حرکت دادن سر، هم جنگل و هم جلگه و هم دریا خواهد دید. خداوند محل به این خوبی به ما داده آنوقت به آن کثافت 7فتاده بود، عاقبت مجبور شدم خودم این کار را بکنم. آب معدنی رامسر کجا پیدا می شود؟ چرا نتوانستیم استفاده ببریم؟ به تجار و سرمایه داران سفارش و تاکید کردم کارخانه بیاورید نیاوردند، خودم آوردم، باز تاکید و سفارش کردم مهمانخانه بسازید و تشکیل شرکت بدهید نکردند. ... من می بنیم بهترین آب و هوا و بهترین منظره طبیعی را داریم چرا استفاده نبریم؟ من امروز پادشاهی هستم مالک و زارع، مهمانخان چی، کارخانه چی، و حمامی... مگر من نمیدانم پادشاه مملکت نباید این کارها را بکند؟ اما ملاحظه می کنم که فرد ایرانی امروز که صد تومان خرج می کند میخواهد فردا صد تومان از خرجی که کرده عایدی بردارد، درصورتی که خارجیها میلیونها تومان خرج می کنند و سالها فعالیت می کنند، و بعد از سالها زحمت بهره بردای می کنند.

منهم مملکتم را دوست دارم، بنابر این شخصا اقدام می کنم. فردا هم که رفتم تما آنچه =D Aه کردم می ماند برای مملکت. بعد از یک ساعت فرمایش، درحالی که واقعا به گریه افتاده بودم بنده را با کمال تاثر و ناراحتی مرخص فرمودند.

Venezuela-Iran Terror Network Growing in Latin America

Iran is increasing its military and espionage presence rapidly throughout Latin America, according to U.S. and Israeli officials, turning the region into a major base for terrorism and subversion. The disturbing trend has been building for several years and has deep roots in a presence that Hezbollah, Hamas, and other terrorist groups have had in South America for at least two decades, experts say. Now, though, it’s becoming quite open, with Iran using its consulates to erect front companies for smuggling and forging strong ties with an emerging anti-American coalition led by Venezuela and including leftist regimes in Cuba, Ecuador, Nicaragua, and Bolivia. Using ties to drug cartels and insurgent movements like the FARC, a formidable guerrilla and narcotics trafficking group based in Colombia, Iran has forged a smuggling network for small arms, missiles, drugs and perhaps, nuclear and biological weapons, according to some experts.
The alarm generated by the network is prompting military and intelligence officials in several countries to speak out. Consider:
On Tuesday, U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates accused Iran of "subversive activity" in Latin America that dwarfs any threat posed by Russia, a former Cold War enemy plagued by an aging, decrepit military. On Wednesday, Israel expelled Venezuela's envoys in Tel Aviv in response to their country's severing of relations with Israel over its war in Gaza. Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez, aligning himself with Hamas, has called Israel’s leaders “war criminals.” He’s even labeled U.S. ally Colombia, another perceived enemy, as “Latin America’s Israel.” In November, Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni said the ties between South American guerilla movements and Iranian terror organizations have been sharpening and are now easily observed. For Iran, the goal is to use Latin America to break the international sanctions placed against it over its contentious nuclear program. Iran also has enlarged its missions in Venezuela, Uruguay, Mexico, and Colombia, according to U.S. and Israeli sources. Iranian embassies in these countries are staffed by an "astronomical number" of diplomats, in no proportion to their needs, according to a 2007 Israel Foreign Ministry study. In Nicaragua, for example, there are 30 Iranian diplomats, with a similar number in Venezuela and other countries. Israel fears that these are intelligence operatives also involved in terror. For years, groups such as Hezbollah have had a dominant presence in the Tri-Border region of South America. There, in a smuggling haven known as Ciudad del Este, they’ve built strong fundamentalist communities with mosques fully integrated into the city’s ruling structure. It was from there that several terror attacks have been launched, including the 1992 bombing of the Israeli Embassy in Buenos Aires that killed 29 people, and the 1994 attack that leveled the Jewish community center there and killed 85.
“I'm more concerned about Iranian meddling in the region than I am the Russians," Gates told the U.S. Senate's armed services committee this week. "I'm concerned about the level of frankly subversive activity that the Iranians are carrying on in a number of places in Latin America," Gates said in response to a question from Sen. Mel Martinez, a Florida Republican. "They're opening a lot of offices and a lot of fronts behind which they interfere in what is going on in some of these countries.” Iran has also enlarged its missions in U.S allies like Mexico and Colombia.
Iran is continually searching for openings, and countries it can penetrate, to compensate for the vulnerability created by the [economic] sanctions" against it, Livni told Israeli Army Radio recently. "We are witness to the disturbing phenomenon of Iranian infiltration into South America, so much so that Latin America has become a convenient base for spreading Iranian political and economic ideology," Livni said. "The strengthening of ties between South American guerrillas and the Iranian terrorism activists is plain to see." Since 2000, Chavez has been to Tehran seven times for extensive deal-making that has produced at least $20 billion of arrangements “more opaque than the funds of Bernie Madoff,” according to Douglas E. Schoen, author of “The Threat Closer to Home: Hugo Chavez and the War Against America.” In mid-January, Turkey stopped an Iranian shipment headed to Venezuela with 22 containers labeled as tractor parts. "The equipment was enough to set up an explosives lab," a customs official told the Associated Press. Further, Chavez has welcomed Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to Caracas several times to strengthen their connection and extend to him oil dependencies in Cuba, Bolivia, Ecuador and Nicaragua. None of these nations, incidentally, has an explicit connection with Iran, but all of them voted against 2006 U.N. Security Council Resolutions sanctioning Iran's nuclear weapons program. Schoen believes that Hamas could use Venezuela to engage in asymmetric warfare against Israel in South America, or its ally the United States.
“Chavez is an expert in asymmetric war and deception, a strategic ally of Iran in a declared war against the ‘evil empire’ of America and a harbormaster for Hezbollah, Hamas and terrorist groups in Latin America,” they write. “He has all the weapons needed to terrorize the U.S., including the capacity to build a dirty bomb — or another biological weapon — and the ability to move money or materials across American borders at will through the 14,000 American gas stations he owns.”

در مورد هفده دی و بزرگداشت آن سال هاست که بين مردمان ما اختلاف نظر وجود دارد. اين اختلاف نظرها تقريباً ، از پس جنگ دوم جهانی و رفتن رضاشاه از ايران تا کنون وجود داشته است. البته، در دوران محمد رضا شاه، هميشه هفده دی از سوی دولت به عنوان روز زن در ايران به رسميت شناخته می شد اما، چه در زمان محمد رضاشاه و چه پس از آن، واکنش تقريبا همه ی آن ها که با حکومت سلطنت مخالف بوده اند واکنشی منفی بوده است؛به صورت های مختلف. گروهی گفته اند که رضا شاه «کشف حجاب» را به زور و جبر بر زن ها ايران تحميل کرده است، گروهی آن را به دليل اين که هديه ای از جانب حکومت سلطنتی بود مردود شناخته اند و گروهی نيز به راحتی آن را نديده گرفته و هيچ حرف و سخنی درباره آن به ميان نياورده اند

در اين ميان، و ظاهرا به صورتی بديهی، طرفداران سلطنت هم، چه در زمان محمد رضا شاه و چه پس از آن، روز هفدهم دی را صرفا روزی دانسته اند که تعلق به سلطنت طلبان دارد ـ درست همانگونه که بسياری روز هشتم مارس، روز جهانی زن، را متعلق به چپ ها می دانند و به همين دليل هم هست که برخی آن را رد می کنند و يا آن را نديده می گيرند. من تا به حال کسی را نديده ام که بدون چسباندن روز 17 دی به طرفداران سلطنت ، لااقل محتوای اين روز را متعلق به زن ها، به طور اعم، و زن ها ايرانی به طور اخص، بدانند. و اصولا نديده ام که کسانی ارزش های احتمالی اين روز را، بدون توجه به مسايل سياسی، بررسی و تحليل کنند.در راستای کوششی از اين دست، هم در ارتباط با اين روز و هم در ربط با مساله زن، لازم می دانم ابتدا درباره ی وضعيت زن ايرانی، قبل از به سلطنت رسيدن رضاشاه و قبل از اقدامات او توضيح مختصری بدهم.تاريخ ما، تاريخ ايرانزمين، همچون تاريخ ملل ديگر، سرشار از اعتراض ها، حرکت ها و گاهی جنبش هايي است که زن ها برای رهايي خويش از چنبره ی بی عدالتی جوامع مردسالار داشته اند. از اين نظر، بين وضعيت آن ها و وضعيت بردگان شباهتی آشکار وجود دارد. و اين حرکت ها گاه وسيع و موثر بوده اند و گاه اندک و بی اثر. اريخ ايران باستان سرشار از نشانه های حضور فعال زن ها در زندگی اجتماعی است. اين نکته را تاريخ نويسان در دوران ما به تدريج کشف می کنند (به خصوص پس از خواندن لوحه های هخامنشی نگهداری شده در دانشگاه شيکاگو که شرح وضعيت زندگی رومره و زندگی اجتماعی در آن ها وجود دارد)، و نگاه دوباره ای به شاهنامه (به عنوان نمايشی از وضعيت ايران باستان)، اثرات وجودی اين زن ها را در دوران های مختلف ايران قبل از اسلام را در مقابل ديد ما می نشاند.پس از آمدن اسلام به ايران نيز، عليرغم حضور بی امان مهاجمان مردسالار، و وارد آمد فشار قوانين آن ها بر گرده ی زن ها، باز می بينيم که مثلا زنی همچون «مهستی» در تاريخ ادبيات ما پيدا می شود که، علاوه بر داشتن حضوری فعال در صحنه های اجتماعی، با زبان شعر نيز به توضيح وضعيت بد زنان عصر خودش می پردازد، اقتدار شوهران را بر زنان رد می کند، حق انتخاب همسر را برای زنان نيز به رسميت می شناسد، ازدواج دختران جوان با مردان پير را با طنزی برنده به انتقاد می گيرد و، تا مرحله ی طرد شدن از شهر و ديار خود، پيش می رود و حرفش را ـ حداقل در ارتباط با خودش ـ به کرسی می نشاند. و يا زنی چون «نجمه منجمه» مقابل شخصيتی چون نظامی می ايستد و با دانش و منطق خويش او را وادار به دوستی و تحسين خود می کند. و صدها زن ديگری که نامشان در لابلای گرد و غبار تاريخ گم شده بود و تنها اکنون رفته رفته چهره شان روشن می شود.نزديکترهاشان به ما زن هايي هستند چون طاهره قره العين، که آنقدر قدرت نشان می دهد که در قوانين مذهبی دست می برد و، به عنوان شخصيتی مذهبی، چادر از سر برمی دارد و حجاب را که ـ رکنی اساسی در مذهب مسلمانان است ـ از مذهب حذف می کند. يا زن های ديگری چون تاج السلطان، بی بی خانم استرآبادی، جهانگير، صديقه دولت آبادی، صفيه يزدی، ماهرخ گوهرشناس و... ده ها زنی که زمانه ی خود را به مبارزه خوانده اند تا بتوانند به اندکی آزادی و برابری با مردها برسند. نزديک ترها به ما نيز بسيارانند که مرتب ازشان حرف و سخن هست. اما همه ی اين زن ها، چون ديگر زن های مبارز جهان، خيلی دير و خيلی سخت به عملی شدن خواسته های خود نزديک شده اند. اين راه مشکل بوده است و در اين مسير ديده شده که هر سرزمينی که توانسته زودتر مذهب را از سياست و حکومت جدا کند زودتر به تحقق اين خواسته ها نزديک شده است. و آن هايي که، چون ما، تا همين اوايل قرن بيستم، مذهب در همه ی شئونات زندگی شان دخالت داشت، بسيار ديرتر به سواد دور دست آرزوهاشان رسيده اند.شکل گرفتن جنبش مشروطه برای زن ايرانی جولانگاهی را بهمراه آورد تا او بتواند خواسته های حق طلبانه خود را صريح تر مطرح کند. در خواست های انقلاب مشروطيت خواست آزادی زنان نيز گنجانده شده بود؛ گاه به روشنی و وضوح (مثل قوانين ناظر بر حقوق عموم آحاد ملت ـ حق انتخاب مساوی و عمومی، آزادی بيان و تظاهرات، آزادی حقوق فردی ـ که می شد از درون همين قوانين حقوق زنان را نيز استخراج کرد)، و گاه در لفافه و در زبانی روشنفکرانه. ما تفريبا در اشعار و مقالات اکثر روشنفکران اين دوره مطالبی را درباره آزادی زن می يابيم. آنان نشانه های اين آزادی را در سوادآموزی و برداشتن چادر از سر زن می ديدند. در اين سال ها، يعنی در سال های آغاز و اوج جنبش مشروطيت، اين زن ها بودند که در جنبش تحريم واردات کالاهای خارجی فعالانه شرکت کردند؛ هم آنان بودند که با پوشيدن منسوجات داخلی و پوشاندن بچه هايشان با آن پيشبرد اين حرکت را ميسر ساختند؛ زن ها بودند که با جمع آوری پول، فروش جواهرات و اثاثه ی خانه که متعلق به خودشان بود، تاسيس اولين بانک ملی ايران را امکان پذير کردند؛ زن ها بودند که اتحاديه های زيرزمينی و مخفی درست کردند و برای آگاه ساختن مردمان از حقوق زنان اقدام به انتشار جزوه ها و مقالات کردند؛ و همين زن ها بودند که از نمايندگان مجلس خواستند که وقتی قادر نيستند خدمتی به مردم سرزمين شان بکنند کنار بروند تا زنها بيايند و اين کار را انجام دهند. اما زن هايي که انتظار داشتند با پيروزی انقلاب مشروطيت بتوانند فرصت ها و حقوقی مساوی با مردها به دست آورند با رفتاری خصمانه روبرو شدند. قانون انتخابات مصوب 1906 با نفوذ مردان مذهبی صراحتا زنان را از فعاليت های سياسی منع کرد و، در مقابل اعتراض گروهی از زنان که به مجلس مراجعه کرده بودند، گفته شد که زن ها تنها کارشان امور خانگی و پرورش بچه و خدمت به شوهر و حفظ آبرو و ناموس خانواده است.توجه کنيد که همه ی اين مبارزات در سال های دهه اول قرن بيستم اتفاق افتاده است و رضا شاه در سال 1925 به سلطنت رسيد. يعنی مبارزه وسيع زنان (با توجه به محدود بودن آن در طول تاريخ پس از اسلام) پيش از به قدرت رسيدن رضاشاه شروع شده بود، و سالی چند می شد که اين مبارزه جهت و خواستی روشن پيدا نموده و خواسته هايي چون حق رای، حق طلاق، حق درس خواند در دانشگاه و حق کار کردن همسان با مردان را مطرح کرده بود. اما تا تحقق اين آرزوها راهی دراز در پيش می نمود.به دستور رضا شاه، در سال 1931 دولت وقت قانون حق طلاق، ممنوع کردن ازدواج کودکان نه ساله (که به عقيده ی من به همان اندازه آزادی لباس و امکان رفتن به دانشگاه برای زن ايرانی ارزشمند بوده است) و، همراه با آن، بالا بردن سن ازدواج برای دختران (به 15 سالگی) و کودکان پسر (از 12 سالگی به 18 سالگی) را به مجلس فرستاده و به تصويب رساند. در سال 1936 قانون کشف حجاب و مجاز شدن حضور زنان در دانشگاه ها و موسسات و ادارات نيز به تصويب رسيد. به اين سان، رضاشاه، با دخالت مستقيم خويش، در واقع مهمترين خواسته های برحق و طبيعی زن ها را، که نتوانسته بودند، به دليل دخالت مستقيم روحانيون وقت، آن ها را از اولين مجلس های پس از پيروزی انقلاب مشروطيت بگيرند، به رسميت قانونی نشاند. در واقع آزادی زن ها يکی از جبرهای تاريخ است که نمی شود برای هميشه جلوی آن ايستاد. و رضاشاه اين جبر را درک کرد. حالا بگوييم که «اين درک را انگليس ها به او تفهميم کردند»، بگوييم که «آن را عده ای از اطرافيان روشنفکرش به گردنش گذاشتند»، بگوييم که «اين کارش از لج ملايان بود»، هر چه بگويند و بگوييم در اين نکته شک ندارم که هيچ يک از اين سخنان چيزی از ارزش او در ارتباط با اين اقدام تاريخی کم نمی کند. بياييد بين او و آيت الله خمينی و آيت الله ها و حجت الاسلام های کنونی مقايسه ای کنيم. بياد آوريم که در اواخر قرن بيستم ـ يعنی، قرنی که يکی از مهمترين دستاوردهای فرهنگی و اجتماعی اش تساوی حقوق زن ها است ـ چگونه آيت الله ها مقابل اين جبر تاريخی ايستادند و در اوايل قرن بيست و يکم نيز همچنان ايستاده اند و چگونه از درک ساده ترين مسايل انسانی عاجزند و چگونه دستاوردهای زن ها سرزمين مان را به تاراج می برند. آنگاه بياييد به قضاوت بنشينيم. من، مثل هر انسان عدالت طلب و آزادی خواه، طبعا رضاشاه را، برکنار از همه ی سازندگی های او، به عنوان يک ديکتاتور می شناسم، حتی روش های تحميلی او را برای برداشتن چادر از سر زن ها عملی ديکتاتوری می دانم، و تحقق نيافتن بسياری از خواسته های انقلاب مشروطيت، مثل آزادی بيان و انتخابات و احزاب را، نتيجه ی مستقيم رفتارهای نادرست او می دانم، اما، با اين همه، نمی توانم که به، عنوان يک فمنيست، اقدامات او را در ارتباط با آزادی زن با ارزش ندانم. به اعتقاد من، هر حرکتی که به آزادی انسان از بندهايي که سنت ها به دست و پای او بسته بيانجامد حرکتی قابل تعمق و توجه و ارج گذاری است. به عقيده من سال های 1931 تا 1936 (که تجلی گاه آن همين روز هفدهم دی است) سال های بزرگ و سرنوشت سازی برای زن ها ايرانی به طور اخص، و زن های جهان به طور اعم، است. در اين سال ها همان قوانينی به نفع زنان ايران تغيير کرد که در بسياری از کشورهای ديگر جهان هنوز ـ در اوايل قرن بيست و يکم ـ تغييری در آن ها مشاهده نشده است؛ مثلا بگيريم قوانين مربوط به سن ازدواج را. در همين کشور آيت الله ها کودکان نه ساله را قانونا مورد تجاوز قرار می دهند و اسمش را ازدواج می گذارند. هنوز در برخی از کشورها زن ها حق طلاق ندارند و هنوز در برخی از کشورها زن ها نمی توانند بدون پوششی اسلامی از خانه خارج شوند و يا کاری معادل مردها داشته باشند. و يا حتی پشت فرمان اتومبيل بنشينند. به اين ترتيب، به گمان من، روز هفده دی روزی است که در آن زن های ايرانی توانستند، پس از سال ها تلاش، بالاخره به برخی از خواسته های خود برسند ـ خواسته هايي که به اعتقاد من بسيار مهم و با ارزش هستند. هفده دی روزی است که در آن زن ها توانستند حکومتی قادر و قدرتمند را قانع کنند که خواسته های آن ها را قانونی و رسمی کند. و در نتيجه هر جشنی که برای اين روز گرفته شود جشنی است که مربوط به زن و حقوق زن ايرانی است. برگرفته LONDON (AFP) – Britain and the United States clung to the belief that the shah of Iran would remain in power until shortly before the Islamic revolution, newly declassified documents from 1978 revealed Tuesday.Officials thought Mohammad Reza Pahlavi would continue to rule in some form up to the final weeks of 1978, in spite of violence, protests and the increasing influence of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.The shah left Iran in January 1979 and later Khomeini became supreme leader of the Islamic republic, the creation of which was one of the key events in 20th century Middle Eastern history. "It is not so much that the regime is in danger; more that their car has bogged down in soft ground and it is difficult to see how they are going to pick up speed again," wrote Britain's then ambassador to Tehran Sir Anthony Parsons in May 1978. A US official said in September that year that it was "more likely than not that the shah could weather the next period. It was not in his nature to throw in the sponge." The Western powers' views were revealed in files released by the National Archives in London under laws which allow official papers to be made public after 30 years. Parsons kept London updated on the situation in Iran throughout 1978 in a series of messages. In one of the longest, on May 10, 1978, he said he did not think there was a serious risk of the shah being overthrown and dismissed the influence of religious leaders. "The religious leadership... thunder from the mosques about the destruction of traditional Islamic and Iranian values by the blind adoption of Western customs, Western technology and so on," Parsons wrote. Speaking of the opposition more generally, he added: "I do not believe that this conjuncture poses a threat to the present shah's regime." A briefing from Britain's Tehran mission to the Foreign Office on August 29 added that "the Islamic church as such has no real interest in seeing the Pahlavi regime overthrown when the complexion of any alternative is so uncertain." On September 8, Britain's ambassador to the United States Peter Jay sent a message to London indicating the US was not thinking in terms of the shah being deposed, either. Jay reported then US deputy secretary of state Warren Christopher had "confirmed US concern, though he saw the shah as given to pessimism and was not aware of anything really new." Eight days later, Parsons sent another note to London which an official annotated with a note of concern about the shah's "passivity and depression". Then British prime minister James Callaghan added: "Yes. But he can come back!" Amid more violence and the imposition of martial law in major cities, Callaghan later became more uncertain -- on October 24, he wrote on a report from Parsons: "On the basis of this, I wouldn't give much for the shah's chance." Intensifying unrest saw an attack on the British embassy in Tehran on November 5, 1978 which caused extensive damage. By November 20, Parsons was voicing "very little cause for optimism." "The only hope I can see at present is that, for reasons of exhaustion and general concern about a slide into total anarchy, the temper of the country may abate and Khomeini's simple anti-shah message decline in attraction," he added. In a letter to then US president Jimmy Carter on December 2, Callaghan said it was "impossible" to forecast whether the shah would cling on. But he predicted that if he did not, it would have the "gravest" implications "for our two countries, with their great stake in Iran, in particular". "It is only a minor consolation that continued chaos in the country or the emergence of an extreme government dominated by the religious right wing might create almost as many problems for the Soviet Union," Callaghan wrote. By December 7, Parsons was telling London that it was "increasingly difficult" to see the shah remaining, just a few days before Jay got in touch, quoting Carter as saying he "fully expected" him to retain power. On December 19, Parsons said it was "as difficult as ever to predict the outcome" and said the "only hope" for continuing the dynasty was for him to become a constitutional monarch and hand over to his son quickly. Britain finally advised its subjects to leave Iran on December 31 unless they had a compelling reason to remain, and the shah followed soon after, on January 16, 1979.

Dear representatives of the international organization

This address does not refer to facts that are new or unknown to you, in fact it is a way of asking for your direct involvement into and awareness about the barbarian and inhuman procedures enforced on the Iranian people by the Tehran regime.
Hereby we lodge a complaint and ask to have the Islamic regime in Iran to be tried and convicted by the international Courts for the violation of the fundamental rights and freedoms, both individual and social, in Iran.

De facto, our request relies on the following motivations:
We state below some of the indictments rooted in the Black Book of the Islamic ruling in Iran:

1. The international terrorism: The dictatorial Iranian regime (this human cancer) extended its claws outside the country`s borders, by its participation in and support to the international terrorism. The international impact of the political regime in Iran (the Islamic Republic of Iran) since its coming to power (in 1979), a regime that caused:
- The war between Iran and Iraq;
- The warfare that consumes Israel, Palestine and Lebanon was enhanced by the support provided by the Iranian regime to the Hezbolah and Hamas groups, but not only;
- The attack on the U.S. Embassy in Tehran resulting in hostages taken among the staff of the American embassy;
- Weaker or even interrupted diplomatic relations with the democratic countries;
- The ideology embodied by this regime became a symbol for other countries or groups and gave birth to religious fanaticism which was supplemented by internal and international terrorism, all of them leading to international instability. The ideas emerging in countries such as Yemen, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Palestine, Afghanistan, Turkey, Pakistan etc. resulted in new fanatical regimes or groups impacting adversely on the national, regional and inrenational security. The support to the armed groups in Afghanistan, but not only, has its roots in the establishment of the dictatorial regime in Iran;
- The terrorist attack on the Jewish Center in Argentine, as well as other assaults against the interests and embassies of the democratic countries;
- The Iran’s negative involvement in creating a conflicting situation in the area of the Indian Kashmir, so that there is a real danger for a war between India and Pakistan to break out;
- Iran accepted and even welcomed on its territory the members of the Al Kaida and Taliban terrorist groups.We wish to point out that over thousands families in Palestine, whose members joined the terrorist actions directed against Israel, mostly through criminal and fanatic bomb attacks near the Alghods mosque are backed up by the Iranian dictatorship which provides lodgings, monthly salaries and other benefits (health insurance, social welfare a.s.o.) to these members. Apart from that, the dictatorial regime in Iran will keep on supporting – through its criminal policy – any other terrorist actions carried out by other individuals or families than the ones already mentioned, a fact stated by the manager of the Boniad Shahid Organization in Iran, also declared by Khamenei, the spiritual leader.

2. The internal terrorism: Let`s not forget the other face of terrorism, whose actions are manifest in killings and tortures, while imposing its criminal rules on its own people.
The internal terrorism turned Iran into the country with the highest rate of death sentences and political prisoners who are tortured, on and on, in their prisons.

3. Jails crowded with political prisoners, people whose beliefs are different from those of the dictatorial regime in Iran;

4. Death penalties – mostly for political reasons – as well as inhuman death executions: shooting, hanging, stoning to death, torture, all of them perpetrated on the public domain (squares, stadiums) with a view to causing fear and terror among the population and preventing any popular action against the regime;

5. Death sentences whose execution is both inquisitorial and inhuman: cudgel blows, limbs cut off …;

6. Terrorist operations conducted against the people opposing the regime;

7. Torture, in the full sense of the word and in all its forms (physical and mental), of the arrested people for various reasons, also as a means of making the prisoners acknowledge the perpetration of deeds they had not committed;

8. Wide spreading and deepening of serious social problems that did not exist before the regime in power now: poverty, starvation, the cultural squalor, Islamic radicalism and terrorist fanaticism, prostitution, drug addiction, unemployment (in excess of 60 %), high divorce rates, family abandon;

9. Coming to power of mob groups, the robbery of national treasures in their own interest;

10. Establishment of a regime under the title and name of the Islamic Republic, which is nothing else but a flagrant breaker of the human rights – is another proof of the human rights infringement, as both religion and faith represent a direct connection between Man and his Creator, a link that does not require a go-between, an intermediary (shouls it be a political regime or a specific party) that interferes with their spiritual relation. In fact, there are several worships (religions) in every country, so that naming a country after a single religion is nothing else but a violation of the rights enjoyed by the people who embraced other cults (religions) in that country, the same as country names such as the Christian Republic, the Jewish Republic or the Buddhist Republic cannot be accepted;

11. The dictatorial and inhuman interference of the regime with the private life of the person, of the family and of the society as well, through violation of the basic individual rights – imposed faith and religion, as shown by the name of the regime itself (Islamic Republic);

12. Disrespect of the natural and elementary right to proper nourishment, the right to drink water and to smoke – for instance, during the fast (the Ramezan) when all restaurants are forced to shut down and people are forbidden to feed themselves or drink water;

13. Interdiction upon listening to music and drastic sanctions imposed for any breach (even the drivers are controlled and sanctioned if they have audio cassettes in their cars);

14. Dressing code – the individuals are forbidden to dress as they wish and like to, or to wear clothes in vivid colors (this is valid for women in the first place), while men cannot wear ties;

15. The normal relations between the people of opposite gender, either in private or in society are forbidden and punished – a situation which is also manifest by the mandatory separation of the schools for girls from the schools for boys; separation of places in the public transportation (buses, trolley-buses, subway…): the women sit in the rear half of the transport means, while men sit in front…;

16. Interdiction to care for and keep pets (dogs, cats…);

17. Ban of any holidays and anniversaries (birthdays…) celebrated with music and dancing;

18. Interdiction to celebrate the major events of the national and cultural tradition of the Iranian people (the New Year…);

19. The candidates to universities are accepted based on their affiliation or of their family affiliation with the radical religious groups in power: the intellectual capacity and level of knowledge of the candidates are not taken into account.

De jure, our claim is motivated by the uncontestable violation of the international legal provisions on human rights (the European Convention of Human Rights, the Bill of Rights and other relevant conventions).
We emphasize that these cases are endless and all the aspects we have mentioned above are only a part of the wrongdoings that this regime made against the Iranian people, a situation that not only stopped Iran from its pace towards development, towards a real and modern democracy, but pushed it back hundreds years ago.
As a result, milions Iranian people escaped from their country in search of freedom, while about 3,000,000 of them are refugees.
These facts and many other are the reasons why we lodge this complaint against the dictatorial State, the supporter of domestic and international terrorism.
We turn to you because we rely on your honor, on the responsibilities resulting from your international position, in search of respect for human rights.

I CAN’T seem to get the Museum of Islamic Art out of my mind. There’s nothing revolutionary about the building. But its clean, chiseled forms have a tranquillity that distinguishes it in an age that often seems trapped somewhere between gimmickry and a cloying nostalgia. Part of the allure may have to do with I. M. Pei, the museum’s architect. Mr. Pei reached the height of his popularity decades ago with projects like the East Building of the National Gallery of Art in Washington and the Louvre pyramid in Paris. Since then he has been an enigmatic figure at the periphery of the profession. His best work has admirers, but it has largely been ignored within architecture’s intellectual circles. Now, at 91 and near the end of a long career, Mr. Pei seems to be enjoying the kind of revival accorded to most serious architects if they have the luck to live long enough. But the museum is also notable for its place within a broader effort to reshape the region’s cultural identity. The myriad large-scale civic projects, from a Guggenheim museum that is planned for Abu Dhabi to Education City in Doha — a vast area of new buildings that house outposts of foreign universities — are often dismissed in Western circles as superficial fantasies. As the first to reach completion, the Museum of Islamic Art is proof that the boom is not a mirage. The building’s austere, almost primitive forms and the dazzling collections it houses underscore the seriousness of the country’s cultural ambition.

Shabe Yaldā (Persian: یلدا) or Shabe Chelle (Persian: شب چله) is an Iranian festival originally celebrated on the Northern Hemisphere's longest night of the year, that is, on the eve of the Winter Solstice. The 13th century Iranian poet Sa'di wrote in his Bustan: "The true morning will not come, until the Yalda Night is gone". Following the Iranian calendar reform of 1925, which pegged some seasonal events to specific days of the calendar, Yalda came to be celebrated on the night before and including the first day of the tenth month (Dey). Subject to seasonal drift, this day may sometimes fall a day before or a day after the actual Winter Solstice.Following the fall of the Sassanid Empire and the subsequent rise of Islam, the religious significance of the event was lost, and like other Zoroastrian festivals Yalda became a social occasion when family and close friends would get together. Nonetheless, the obligatory serving of fresh fruit during mid-winter is reminiscent of the ancient customs of invoking the divinities to request protection of the winter crop.

Yalda today - Families continue to hold traditional gatherings on Yalda.^{[citation needed]} Iranian radio and television offer special programming on that night of Yalda. Watermelons are placed on the Korsi, a traditional piece of furniture similar to a very short table, around which the family sit on the ground. On it, a blanket made of wool filling is thrown, people leave their legs under the blanket. Inside the korsi, heat is generated by means of coal, electricity or gas heaters. Youth hold Yalda parties.

ما فصل جدیدی را در روند تلاشهای سیاسی کشورمان آغاز میکنیم

و دوستان گروه که مرا در این راه یاری دادند.

تاریخ تحولات سال های سلطنت پهلوی ها و بعد از آن، نشان دهنده مبارزات، جنگها، شکستها، پیروزیها و تضادهای فراوانی است که هر کدام از این وقایع از قهرمانان، رهبران و پرچمدارانی نیز برخوردار بوده و این شخصیتها بنوبه خود تعیین کننده خط و مرزهای مشخص سیاسی بوده اند که آثار آن هنوز بعد از سالها، تعیین کننده خط و مرزهای فکری و عقیدتی در صحنه سیاسی جامعه ما گردیده اند.
این شخصیت ها در بسیاری موارد در تضاد باهم و حتی در ضدیت با هم قرار گرفته اند ولی بهر صورت، وجود آنها، راه آنها، مبارزات و اعمالشان تاثیر بزرگی در مسیر سیاسی و اجتماعی که سرزمین و ملت ما پیموده بر جای گذارده است و این تاثیرگذاری در عین حال باعث ایجاد مرز و صفوفی در صحنه سیاسی ایران گردیده که بخاطر غیبت و نبود احزابی که مانند غرب، در جامعه نهادینه شده باشند باعث گردیده هر شخصیت دارای طرفدارانی با شیوه های فکری خود باشد.
من و دوستانم باین حقیقت واقفیم که نه خدمات، نه اشتباهات و نه اهمیت و تاثیرگذاری این شخصیتها بر روی جامعه یکسان بوده و نه جایگاه اجتماعیشان. ما باین حقیقت واقفیم که همه آنها کم و بیش مرتکب اشتباهات و در عین حال خدماتی شده اند که در صورت عدم ارتکاب و یا عدم وقوع آن، جامعه ما شاید دارای سمت و سوی دیگری میگردید.
ما اعتقاد راسخ داریم که یک یک این بزرگان، بسرنوشت مردم و کشور خود بیحد علاقمند بوده و به سرزمینشان عشق میورزیده اند و این در حقیقت نقطه و مخرج مشترک این قهرمانان جامعه ما میباشد و بهمین دلیل هم معتقدیم که تاریخ از همه آنها به نیکی یاد خواهد کرد و از آنجا که چندی پیش 14 مرداد (روز مشروطیت) را پشت سر گذاردیم، مشروطیت را نیز حلقه وصل دیگری بین این شخصیتها میدانیم با علم باین حقیقت که بعضی از آنها یا نتوانستند و یا بدلایلی نخواستند تمام اجزاء قانون مشروطه را در عمل پیاده کنند.
هدف ما این نیست که ترازو را برداشته و خدمات یکی و اشتباهات دیگری را در مقابل یکدیگر سنجیده و خدمات و اشتباهاتشان را نمره گذاری کنیم. تاثیرگذاری و خدمات یکی در مدرنیزه کردن و پیشرفت اجتماعی و اقتصادی ایران غیر قابل انکار و مبارزات دیگری بهدف دسترسی بآزادیهای سیاسی را نیز نمیتوان نفی نمود.
دونفرشان در تبعید و یکنفرشان در زندان خانگی دارفانی را وداع گفتند و نفر دیگر بدست جلادان جمهوری اسلامی به بدترین وجه بقتل رسید.
جمع ما، خود نیز متشکل از افرادیست که هر یک هوادار یکی از این شخصیت ها بوده و بعضا برداشت خوبی از دیگر شخصیت های متعلق به گروه مقابل نداشتند. ولی ما فصل جدید و اقدام نوینی را در ادامه راه سیاسی خود آغاز نمودیم که متفقا – با وجود تمام اختلاف سلیقه های سیاسی که در بین ما وجود دارد – تصمیم گرفتیم دفتر گذشته را ببندیم و با گشودن دفتر جدیدی، بآنچه که باعث تفرقه بین بخشی از جامعه سیاسی ایران گردیده نقطه پایان بگذاریم و اقلا تا آنجائی که مربوط به من و دوستانم میگردد اعلام کنیم که همه این شخصیتها برای ما ارزنده و عزیزند و ما آنها را بسان قهرمانان سرزمین خودمان میپنداریم و یادشان را گرامی میداریم.
زمانیکه ما تصمیم باتخاذ و اعلام این فکر و فرهنگ سیاسی جدید گرفتیم خود را در عین حال آماده شنیدن ایرادها، انتقادات و حملاتی که نتیجه سالها کج اندیشی سیاسی است نمودیم، از جمله اینکه، چرا و چطور بخود اجازه میدهیم فلان شخصیت را در کنار دیگر شخصیت قرار دهیم و ظلم وارده باو را نادیده انگاریم، و یا اینکه با کدام جرات یک شخصیت با آن درجه از اقتدار را در کنار دیگر فردی قرار میدهیم که از لحاظ مقام و منزلت در حد پائین تری قرار دارد.
ولی همانطور که در آغاز متذکر شدم بهیچوجه قصد تجزیه و تحلیل خدمات، اشتباهات و مقام و منرلت آنها را نداریم و واقعا لزومی هم به بحث وگفتگو در باره علت و چرای این موضعگیری نوین خودمان نمیبینم زیرا باختصار ولی کافی در بالا دراینباره توضیح دادم.
برای من کوچکترین شک و تردیدی وجود ندارد که در آینده نزدیک، آنچه که ما امروز بعنوان یک فکر جدید ارائه میدهیم، در میان بخش عظیمی از مردم ایران یک اصل کاملا عادی، طبیعی و مورد قبول عامه خواهد بود.
همانقدر که انتقادها و حملات را بجان میخریم بگذار این افتخار را هم بنام خود ثبت کنیم که توانستیم – اقلا در بین خود – مرزهای متعلق بگذشته را از بین ببریم.
از نظر ما ستارخان، باقرخان، رضا شاه پهلوی، محمد رضا شاه پهلوی، دکتر محمد مصدق و دکتر شاپور بختیار شخصیت ها و قهرمانانی هستند که هر کدام بخشی از جامعه ایران را حول نام خود گرد آورده اند.
ما می توانستیم نامهای دیگری را هم باین اسامی اضافه کنیم، یفرم خان ارمنی، سردار اسعد بختیاری، آیت اله بهبهانی، احمد قوام، خلیل ملکی، دکتر صدیقی، داریوش و پروانه فروهر، قره العین، و.........ولی بهر حال درست یا غلط، ما بر این باوریم که این شخصیت های منتخب ما، هرکدام بیش از سایرین رهبری بخشی از جامعه را بعهده داشتند و هر کدام بنوعی و در حد خود در جامعه مطرح بودند. انتخاب ستارخان و باقرخان جنبه سمبلیک دارد و نشانه اعتقاد ما و همچنین اعتقاد و احترام این شخصیت ها بقهرمانان و مبارزین صف اول مشروطه خواهی میباشد.
ما در حقیقت «رضا پهلوی» را ادامه دهنده راه این شخصیت ها میدانیم و مواضع و آرمانهای او را ترکیبی از اعتقاد به تجددگرائی و اقتدار ایران و همچنین احترام وی و پایبند بودنش به آرمانهای آزادیخواهی و دموکراسی خواهی این پیشینیان کشورمان میدانیم.
اینکه آیا ایشان نیز معتقد به این فکر و فرهنگ جدید ماست و آیا نظر وی موافق و یا مخالف مواضعی استکه در بالا ارائه دادیم هرگز نه مورد سئوال ما از ایشان بوده و نه با ایشان در اینباره صحبت و مشورتی نموده ایم.
من و دوستانم بابتکار خود، زمان را مناسب ارائه چنین طرز فکر و جامعه را آماده قبول چنین انتخابی تشخیص دادیم.
حالا اگر کسانی این انتخاب ما را خدشه دار نمودن مرزها و پایمال نمودن اصول و مبادی تشخیص دادند و مارا سزاوار حملات و انتقادات خود شناختند، چنین بادا.
ما خود معتقدیم که بخش بزرگی از زنان و مردان کشورمان از این مرزبندیها و جدل های بیهوده سیاسی بعذاب آمده اند و این موضع نوین مارا تحسین خواهند نمود.
ما مبارزه ای را که ستارخان و باقرخان رهبری نمودند ارج میگذاریم و درود و احترام خود را نثار روان قهرمانان جامعه مان، رضاشاه، محمدرضاشاه، محمد مصدق و شاپور بختیار می نمائیم.
روانشان شاد، راهشان پیروز.

Introduction : Iranian food and cookery are framed by the history and geography of the country, as well as its position in the culture and politics of the region. Food is part of the cultural synthesis formed over the centuries by the interaction of peoples in trade, war, empires and religions. It is also shaped by the natural environment, so diverse in Iranian lands: from mountains to deserts, from the arid to rain-fed green forests and pastures, from the warm Gulf in the south to the temperate Caspian in the north. This environment provides a rich variety of vegetation, fruit, nuts, fish, meat and dairy, ingredients in the evolution of distinctive food traditions. Historical continuities are combined with developing elements, such as the import of New World foods, like the tomato and the potato which revolutionised cooking in many regions including Iran. Considered in the regional context, Iran has many distinctive dishes and ingredients, some of which they have contributed to their neighbours, especially in the era of globalisation and rapid diffusion, such as Fesenjoon and Ghormeh. Others, such as Kebab, Dolma and Kofta, are shared with neighbouring lands, but with distinctive Iranian character. The Iranian kitchen boasts the most varied and refined rice cookery, with distinctive methods and variation of ingredients. These and many related themes will be pursued in the lecture.
About the Speaker : Sami Zubaida is Emeritus Professor of Politics and Sociology at Birkbeck College, London and Research Associate of the London Middle East Institute, SOAS. He has held visiting positions at Cairo, Istanbul, Berkeley CA, Paris and New York University. Publications include: A Taste of Thyme: Culinary Cultures of the Middle East (co-edited with Richard Tapper), London 2000, Law and Power in the Islamic World, London 2003, and Islam, the People and the State, London 1993, to be re-issued with new Introduction in 2008. صدها نفر از دانشجویان دانشگاه تهران از ساعت 11 صبح امروز روبروی دانشکده ی فنی تجمع کرده وبه سنت هر ساله برای حمایت و ورود دانشجویانی که بیرون دانشگاه حضور داشتند و نیروهای امنیتی و انتظامی مانع ورود آنان به دانشگاه شده بودند ساعت 12 با حرکت به سمت درب 16 آذر اقدام به شکستن قفل های این درب نموده و باعث ورود آنان به داخل دانشگاه شدند. سپس با هماهنگی دفتر تحکیم وحدت روبروی دانشکده فنی تریبون آزاد دانشجویی برپا شد و دانشجویان با سر دادن شعارهایی نسبت به سیاست های دولت بویژه طرح بومی گزینی دانشجویان ، سهمیه بندی جنسیتی ، سیاستهای اقتصادی ، فضای بسته دانشگاهها و سخنان تهدید آمیز وزیر علوم اعتراض کردند.جمعیت تجمع کنندگان علیرغم حضور پرشمار نیروهای امنیتی و انتظامی ، بالغ بر چهارهزار تن تخمین زده میشد.در این مراسم تعدادی از فعالان دانشجویی منجمله مهدی عربشاهی دبیر تحکیم وحدت ، شاهین زینعلی نماینده ائتلاف دانشجویان ملی آزادی خواه و خانم مهدیه گلرو نماینده کمیته ی دفاع از حق تحصیل سخنرانی کردند. این مراسم ساعت 14 با حرکت دانشجویان به سمت درب اصلی دانشگاه به پایان رسید

The Achaemendis Cyrus is the greatest and most outstanding political personality in the long history of Iran (Persia). His greatness is not due to expanding the Achaemendis Empire; it is due to his out look to the social coexistence among the then various nations, as well as due to his declaration of Human Rights, and his stead fastness to put it into practice. The greatness of Cyrus is due to his respecting other religions, gods, and the customs of all the people, that he conquered their lands. Cyrus the Great difference with other Kings, Caliphs and by gone political leaders was that, where ever he conquered, left the inhabitants of the conquered lands to pursue and preserve their own religious beliefs, even though he worshiped one god concept of (Mazda), he paid visits to the biggest temples of other religions, while respecting their gods. He never killed the Kings, the high officials or the war prisoners, of the conquered lands. He did not loot the wealth of the conquered people. He did not let his army personal to abuse women and girls of the defeated nations. He did not let any of the defeated people being taken as slaves to be bought or sold. This high characteristic of Cyrus is admitted by the western historians, though it is said that almost all of them were either enemies of Iran or at least envious of its splendor and glory. I have a long poem called “Songs of Great Cyrus” which is put together with consideration of the above statements. By making this poem, I’m not endorsing a specific form of government. What comes in this poem, apart from anything, is the reflection of the beliefs, characters, the way of life of Persians in a long history span. In fact this poem is trying to express and explore the feelings of the people who have, during the long history, been less brutal than having under gone through barbaric and brutal behavior of others. This poem consists of 80 pages, only the first page is bestowed to Iran Lovers.

Today, nearly 300 million people around the world celebrate the first day of spring as their new year, better known as Norouz (New Day). Nearly all of these celebrants live in UN member nations. Unfortunately, none of the UN calendars or affiliated agencies commemorate this important date as has been done for different celebrations of member nations. We, the undersigned, request from your Excellency, bearer of the highest office of the United Nations, to kindly authorize the relevant agencies to correct this oversight for the upcoming calendars throughout the UN agencies. به نام پروردگار بزرگ كه خالق و حافظ صلح است
سلام بر مصلحين جهان، اداي احترام مي‌كنم به ساحت مقدس كساني كه عمر شريفشان را صرف اصلاحات كردند، سر مي‌سايم بر تربت قربانيان جنايت و خشونت، از داخل سلولم بوسه بر لباني مي‌زنم كه حقوق بشر را دم مي‌زنند درودم را از بند پر دردم در زندان اوين در شمال تهران، پايتخت ايران، بپذيريد، ‌روزگار سختي را سپري مي‌كنم، كه تمام دلخوشي من، ياري رساندن به صلح و همراهي با آزاديخواهان و همسوئي با مدافعين حقوق بشر است، تنها آفريدگارم مي‌داند كه طي چهارده سال، خدمتگزاري به صلح و آئين آزادگي چه كشيدم و چگونه عمرم را سپري نمودم، من از كودكي از ظلم تنفر داشتم و استبدادستيزي طنين ضربان قلبم بود و هرگز نتوانستم در برابر زورگوئي‌هاي صاحبان قدرت ساكت بنشينم و چشمانم را بر تبعيض‌خواهي‌ها و آزادي‌كشي‌ها ببندم و ناله‌هاي انسان هاي بي‌پناه را نشنيده بگيرم، هميشه تشنه عدالت بوده‌ام و با ديكتاتورها در نبرد پيوسته قرار داشته‌ام، من خدائي را مي‌پرستم كه پيامبران را به قهر و غضب نفرستاده باشد و حكمي در رعب و وحشت جامعه ارسال نكند، ديني را قبول دارم كه مردم‌نواز باشد و دستان مجريان شريف را براي خودكامگي باز نگذاشته باشد، من عدالت را روح اجتماع مي‌دانم، آنگاه كه روان بشريت پريشان گشت، ناامني سراسر زمين را فرا مي‌گيرد، من آزادي را جسم موجودات مي‌دانم، در صورت سلب آزادي از هر موجودي، كالبدش تباه مي‌گردد. اينجانب توجه به حقوق بشررا از اعظم خدمات حياتي مي‌دانم، انسان براي خلاصي از هر نوع اسارتي، ‌آزادي لازم دارد، هركس با طرح هر قانوني، درصدد محو يا محدوديت براي آزادي باشد به حقيقت انسانيت جفا كرده و مستوجب طرد است، من، صلح را از باران براي مردم زمين، ضروري‌تر مي‌دانم، زندگي بدون آب را با عطوفت و مهرباني همنوعان مي‌توان علاج نمود، من، حق‌كشي‌هاي رايج در ممالك را براي ابناء بشر از قحطي زشت‌تر مي‌دانم، زيرا كه در قهر طبيعت، بني‌آدم مددكار يكديگر مي‌شوند و اين بلاياي طبيعي را تسكين مي‌دهند، اما در نقض حقوق طبيعي و فطري و خداداده انسان، قدرت اعتراض جمعي، مي‌شكند و توان رعيت براي احقاق حقش محو مي‌گردد. من تاريخ گذشته را نسبت به تضييع حقوق بشر، شرم‌آور مي‌دانم، آنجا كه حكام براي توسعه‌طلبي خود، از جان ملت ها مايه مي‌گذارند و آرامش خلق را به خاطر كشورگشائي‌هاي خويش،‌سلب مي‌كنند، خون هاي مظلومين را براي جاه‌طلبي‌هاي خود مي‌ريزند و نسل ها را منقرض مي‌سازند تا به اغراض حيواني و ضد انساني خود برسند، جنگ هاي جهاني موجود بر تارك تاريخ را عصيان بر موجود برگزيده خداوند مي‌دانم و سياهي‌هاي پاك‌نشدني از جنايات آن را لكه ننگي بر دامن سياستمداران بي‌وجدان و دور از خدا مي‌دانم، من هرگز مذهبي را كه با زور و تفتيش عقايد و سلب آزادي‌هاي فكري راه پيشرفت را براي خود، مشروع مي‌داند باور ندارم، اينجانب،‌انسان را اشرف مخلوقات مي‌دانم و او را برگزيده الهي در هستي مي‌بينم و هرگونه تعرض به هويت و موجوديت و شخصيت و مالكيت او را خلاف اراده خداوندي مي‌دانم، ‌انسان ها حاكمان بلامنازعه حكومت ها هستند و دولت ها، خدمتگزاران ايشان مي‌باشند، هر حاكمي كه قصد استثمار انساني را داشته باشد گمراه است و حق اشتغالات حكومتي را ندارد، استعمارگر در هر لباسي كه انگيزه چپاول و تعدي به بشريت داشته باشد، به همه آحاد انساني اعلام جنگ داده است. يچ تفاوتي در نژادها و رنگ‌ها و ملل كره زمين نمي‌باشد و بني آدم، در هرآنچه كه از مدخل اين سياره خاكي به دست مي‌آيد، ‌سهيم است، وجود گرسنگي در جهان، بي آبروئي ثروتمندان را به تاريخ مي برد و آن را به عنوان بي‌رحمي و بي‌وجداني، ثبت مي‌گرداند، تمام ملت هاي زمين بايد از امكانات طبيعي آب و خاك و هوا، بهره‌برداري كنند، زياده‌خواهي‌ها و توسعه‌طلبي‌ها و امتيازگيري ها نشانه عدم قناعت و احتياط و اعتدال است و سبب بروز كينه‌ها و عداوت ها مي‌شود و مردم بي‌گناه را تهديد به خونريزي مي‌گرداند لذا بايد از هرابزاري كه اسباب نبردها را فراهم مي‌آورد، اجتناب كرد، مقدمات جنگ در جبهه‌گيري‌هاي خصومت‌آميز است، لذا بايد بين همه اقوام و اديان، پل هاي دوستي و محبت ساخت و روابط بين‌المللي را برپايه حسن ظن و تكثير مودت و پرهيز از تحريكات اقليتي و جغرافيائي و مرزي و انساني، بنا نمود. من منادي صلح مي‌باشم و به خاطر آن جوانيم را تقديم خداوند كرده‌ام، به عنوان يك آزاديخواه كه سالها به خاطر حرمت آزادي، تاوان سنگيني را در قرباني دادن از خانواده و فروپاشي زندگيم داده‌ام، خواهان دموكراسي در تمامي جهان هستم، و تفاوتي بين اديان مختلف آسماني و مذاهب الهي نمي‌بينم، هرآئيني كه ما را به پروردگار جهان برساند، سعادت‌آفرين خواهد بود، سلاح هاي كشتار جمعي را ضديت با بشر مي‌دانم و بمب هاي هسته‌اي را عامل نابودي و انقراض انسان مي‌يابم، مسابقه در توليد و تكثير و فروش اسلحه را مغاير با سلامت محيط زيست مي‌دانم و هرچه را كه باعث برهم خوردن آرامش انسان شود، محكوم مي‌كنم، بايد فرهنگ‌سازي در جهان به گونه‌اي پيش رود كه نيازي به داشتن زندان نباشد، نبايد حكومت ها قوانيني وضع كنند كه باعث به زحمت افتادن مردم شود، ماليات ها و عوارض و جريمه‌ها بايد در حد اعتدال و ميانه باشد و رعايت توانائي اقشار مردم در پس دادن و اداء آنها بشود، من از ايران‌زمين به تمامي خادمين حقوق بشر، تواضع مي‌كنم و مناديان صلح را در آغوش مهرم مي‌فشارم، در حالي كه انجمن حمايت از حيوانات در چگونگي برخورد انسان با حيوان، نظارت دارد و آن را زير ذره‌بين دارد، چگونه از حال بشر مظلوم و مفلوك در جاي‌جاي اين كره، غافل مي‌شود؟ من در حالي كه سال ها قبل به خروج از كشورم دعوت و توصيه شده بودم اما به خاطر دلسوزي به هموطنانم و احساس نياز آنها به دفاع از حقوق مشروع و معقول و معروفشان همه خطرات موجود را به جان خريدم و حاضر به ترك ملتم نگشتم و اكنون در بدترين موقعيت امنيتي و تبليغي و روحي و خانوادگي، قرار دارم و از حال و روزم، مجامع بين‌المللي آگاه هستند، در عين حال، زندان و تبعيد و آزار و فشار را به خاطر اهميت حقوق بشر و عظمت صلح‌جوئي تحمل مي‌كنم و خدا و تاريخ را به شهادت مي‌گيرم كه از آغاز حياتم، از ستمكاري پرهيز كرده‌ام و عاشق خدمت به محرومان بوده‌ام و از موقعيت هاي مهم خود در اعتلاي اجتماعي و علائق مردمي، سوء استفاده نكردم و در هنگام حمله نيروهاي مسلح حكومتي، همگان را دعوت به تسليم كردم و از مقابله با تهاجمات كه سبب خونريزي مي‌گشت، اجتناب نمودم، و حالا هم خود را يك فدائي صلح و مبلغ آزادي و مدافع حقوق بشر مي‌دانم و از مراكز تصميم‌گيرنده در اين امر مي‌خواهم تا مرا در پيشبرد اهداف مقدسم ياري كنند و مصونيتي در خور Failure of Federalism for Iran - Sarbazan and Janbakhtegan Organization

Thursday November 27th, 2008 -

Federalism is a political system which allows each different states to join to one another and these different states would form a nation-state like United States of America which is made of 50 states and one District of Columbia.1 There is a reason for America to comprise of different states because it had lengthly battle against Britain, and on July 04th, 1776, it gained its independence. There is Canada which is composed of ten provinces, and three territories, and Canada too went through lengthly armed forces battle, as well as, political battle against Britain to become an independent nation, and it was on April 17th, 1982 Canada had its own act, but still her majesty Queen Elizabeth II was head of state of Canada. Obviously, the US and Canada shared same historical background as they struggled against Britain to become independent nations by unifying all different nations into one strong nations against Britain. Now, let's ponder these questions to better understand federalism in relation with Iran. Does Iran share or experience of any above historical event? Are Iranians struggling against one foreign entity? And who is enemy of Iran today? Answering all above questions in one short answer that Iran has been an independent nation since dawn of history, and enemy of Iran, today, is the theocratic regime in Iran. The aim of this paper is to explore concept of political culture of Iran, discussing current economic condition of Iran in relation with future of Iran, and formulating a strategy to integrate diverse ethnic groups into a mainstream of Iran. This paper will prove that federalism would not work for Iran.This portion of the paper is exploring concept of political culture of Iran. In first order of business, it is going to define concept of political culture which is going to give more in-depth understanding of intention of this paper. Political culture is defined as "values, beliefs, and attitudes that are the basis of political behavior. The political culture of a group of people composed of the memory of important historical events in the group's development and the symbols that crystallize the subjective meaning that their society has for them."2 Today's value and belief of Iranian are shaped by past experience, it goes back to Cyrus the Great who is founder of Iran, and his my mother was Mandana from Mede princess who married a Persian king, and labor of their union brought Cyrus the Great. Interestingly, name of Cyrus is "a non-Iranian name. More likely, however, is an Iranian origin related to kur, the word for son in Kurdish and Luri dialects. The mixture of cultural elements from Aryans and indigenous peoples is also shown in the dress of the Persians pictures on reliefs from Persepolis, where they wear robes like Elamites rather than trousers or boots as do the other Iranian peoples, including Medes."3 Therefore, diversity has been pinnacle point of Iran from the founder of Iran Cyrus the Great, and ethnic groups would mingle with one another in royal court, or on daily activities.Passing page of history in fast pace, and coming closer to Iran's contemporary history by looking at 1900's when Britain and Russia signed a treaty with each other, and divided Iran into two spheres of their own influence, as American lawyer William Morgan Shuster published a book "The Strangling of Persia" and Edward Granville Browne published books like "The Persian Revolution 1905-1909" and "The Letters From Tabriz", as the above books depicted a chilling historical events that how Iran was ransacked by Russia and Britain without mercy. In addition, Russia would supply Iranian separatist with arsenal in order to under mind the central authority, and Britain would supply souther separatist with arsenal in order to under mind the central authority. However, when Japan defeated Russia and Russia faced with Bolshevik Revolution of 1917. Russia lost control of Iran. Additionally, Britain was on shaky ground on Iraq, and was moving toward inevitable World War One, and it needed its army to defend its own sovereignty. It was during this global unrest that a man named Reza Mirpanj who stepped in political scene, and descended throne of Iran who saved Iran from hands of separatists. Once, Russia and Britain took a break from the World War One, they launched an assault on Iran, and forced His Imperial Majesty King of Kings Reza Pahlavi the Great abdicated the throne of Iran, and His Imperial Majesty, Light of Aryan, King of Kings Mohammad Reza Pahlavi descended the throne of Iran. Still, Russia and Britain engaged in "Great Game" with Iran by supplying separatists with arsenal and contributing to chaos in Iran. His Imperial Majesty, Light of Aryan, King of Kings Mohammad Reza Pahlavi used military tactic, as well as, international community to bring social order back to Iranian territory. Putting past experience beside and looking at current condition of reality which is looming on Iran that already Professor Bernard Lewis drafted a blue print to disintegrate Iran, as Iran would be divided among different ethnic groups.The above plan of Dr. Bernard Lewis is already in progress ad embraced by foreign entities which is according to record on June 31st, 2005 Foreign Minister of Canada Pierre Pettigrew met Iranian separatist from Province of Khuzestan Rafiq Abu-Sharif, who claimed that Province of Khuzestan was suppressed by Iran, and wanted to separate Province of Khuzestan from Iran.4 Also, former prime minister of Canada Paul Martin, and current Prime Minister of Canada Stephen Harper have met Rafiq Abu-Sharif, and all above meetings mean that forces are at work to disintegrate Iran, and needs to be taken seriously by all Iranian that future of Iran is at risk.There is a counter measure to prevent Iran from disintegration by internal and external forces as Iran's political culture is monarchy, a monarch as a head of state of Iran would bring unification among different ethnic groups under one umbrella of Iran. The above scenario for a monarch would be applicable, when a monarch is residing in Iran, and acting within guideline of constitution as a symbol of Iran while parliament or legislative body would take appropriate action for unity of Iran within guideline of constitutional law.This portion of the paper is discussing current economic condition of Iran in relation with future of Iran. The cleric regime's economic management has been equal to plundering Iran's wealth, and has been draining Iran's treasury, and left dry in front of sun thirsty. Consequently, there is no wealth distribution among subjects of Iran. In 2006, Export Development Canada reported 10% of Iran's elite population own 75% of Iran's wealth and 90% of population own 25% of Iran's wealth. The gap between elite of the society and rest of population is going to remain same. In past 20 years Iran's inflation rate is recorded between 12% to 18%, and in 2008 it was recorded 18%,5 and according to current data from International Monetary Fund has stated about the theocratic regime's inflation rate "monetary policy in Iran has not been successful in meeting the inflation and monetary targets set in the Five-Year Development Plans, owing mainly to the monetary impact of government spending out of oil revenue. Although the attainment of the inflation targets has improved somewhat recently, the objective of a gradual disinflation to single-digit levels has not been achieved. Moreover, the implicit intermediate target of monetary policy, money growth, has been systematically missed,"6 and the unemployment rate is "12.6%"7 where population is 70 million. There is daily occurrence in Iran as people put their body organs on auction in a black market or in a legal clinic in exchange for cash. Also, economic pressure is forcing ladies to engage in oldest profession in order to support their basic necessity of life for their families. The above grimes are reality today in Iran, and asking for this mega political structure of federalism for Iran which is relying on oil revenue to meet ends, it would be unfair and unjust cruelty toward 90% of population that owns 25% of Iran's wealth. It means to have fat cats sitting around parliaments and are taking high salaries in the name of democracy, and draining Iran's treasure, and leaving 90% of Iranian hanging dry in front of sun one more time. It would be unjust, and unacceptable.This portion of the paper is formulating a strategy to integrate diverse ethnic groups into a mainstream of Iran by allowing pressure groups to take part in political life in order to create balance of power in a civil society, and power of pressure groups has been proven beyond doubt during cold war as Henry Mintzberg mentioned "capitalism did not triumph at all, balance did. We in the West have been living in balance societies with strong private sectors, strong public sectors, and great strength in the sector between. The countries under communism were totally out of balance."8 Also, there are non-profit organization and non-governmental organization that they contributed to political life in the west,9 and would have influence on public policy.10 These pressure groups are engine behind a healthy civil society and would gear a nation toward a democracy. There is need to create a pluralism political system as political power is diminished among pressure groups, public servants, and elected members of parliament.11 There is absent of one voice rule, but to follow will of people, and people are determining their own future.12 There is no "power elite that dominates the decision making process; rather there is a plurality of participants involved in the process. Success in influencing government decision making depends not only on access to such resources as money and expertise but also on a determination to have one's voice heard."13 In case, there is a federalist system in Iran, eventually, Libertarian school of thought would emerge on surface as a strong voice against this mega system of federalism to cut back on government spending. This school of thought would view "big government is a threat to freedom and economic prosperity," 14 and government needs to cut back on its programs in order to reduce taxes in order to have balance budget.15 Obviously, government would become like a virtual-government model like United Kingdom, United States of America and New Zealand,16 and multinational corporates would decide on public policy.17 Coming to this natural conclusion, if such above reality would occur in Iran by implementing a federalist system, as government would be eliminated by multinational corporates of region, and multinational corporates would push away pressure groups from their path on public policy. Consequently, Iran is marching toward its demise of civil unrest since wealthy province is unwilling to share its regional revenue with other region. However, in case by not having a federalist system, pressure groups would become political actors and would influence on public policy, and would respond to need of their communities as member of each community would begin to integrate into a mainstream society, and would not create an alienation of people who are citizen of one nation. As a result, it is justifiable to be concern about future of Iran, in case, it implements federalism as a political system, Iran is marching directly toward civil war and disintegration of Iran among ethnic groups, and already internal and external forces are working to disintegrate Iran among diverse ethnic groups. Today, 90% of Iranians are under economic pressure and there are families that they having tough times to put one meal on table for their families, this 90% is composed of different ethnic backgrounds, and it does not indicate which particular ethnic group is suffering more than other ethnic groups. Otherwise, it would be reasonable to claim that such ethnicity suffered more than others at hands of other ethnic groups. There is one fact which is standing-out clearly that the cleric who claim to be from line of Prophet Muhammad, and according to history, they invaded Iran during seventh century to plunder Iran' wealth, and today same people with their associates like Revolutionary Guard and Besij are enjoying lucrative 75% of Iran's wealth. This minority group has been suppressing all Iranians since 1979. So, enemy is the regime, and not diversity of Iran. Moreover, future of Iran needs to have diversity of political actors, and not political leaders to shape public policy, and in case federalism would be implemented as a political system in Iran, government would march toward a virtual government and multinational corporate of each region would influence on public policy. Obviously each region with stronger financial background would dominate political scene as others would face less influence in public policy. Consequently, it would lead Iran toward civil war so other region would become independent from other region.The bottom line, the federalist system may work in one country, but not for Iran because Iran's political culture is way different than other nations. Let's reduce unemployment rate, reducing inflation rate, and making sure Iran would move toward peace and prosperity.

US to invade Iran any day now?

A few weeks ago the Russian newspaper Izvestia, a well-known and authoritive daily published nationwide and abroad, came forward with something that would have been looked upon as a conspiracy theory if published by a tabloid.

The paper suggested that by attacking South Ossetia, the Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili had badly damaged a planned U.S. military operation against Iran. In the newspaper's opinion Georgia was supposed to play the role of another "unsinkable aircraft carrier" for the U.S., i.e. an operational and tactical base for U.S. aircraft that would be making bombing raids into Iran. Something akin to what Thailand was in the Vietnam war. Thailand certainly benefited from the arrangement, and Georgia would have too, insists the paper, if its President hadn't put his ambitions above the US national interest and ended up beaten, disarmed, chewing on his neckties and totally incapable of providing whatever the U.S. needs from him. That's why, according to Izvestia in yet another article on the matter, the U.S. response to the Russian retaliation was harsh in words but very mild in action. The latest on the issue suggests that Mikhail Saakashvili may be replaced any day now by direct order from Washington. Having read the story in Izvestia I decided to try to figure out the extent of improbability and impossibility of the assumptions. As I was doing that, I remembered that early in August CNN had started showing U.S. generals who cried for more troops and hardware for Afghanistan which, in their opinion, was rapidly becoming a more intensive conflict than Iraq. Shortly after that, a phone call came from a college friend who had just come back from Kandahar in Afghanistan, where he had seen American battle tanks being unloaded from a Ukrainian-registered Antonov-124 "Ruslan", the heaviest and largest cargo airplane in the world. The friend asked if I had any idea what tanks would be good for in Afghanistan, and I said I didn't. It's an established fact from the Soviet war in Afghanistan that tanks are no good for most of the country's mountainous territory. They are good for flatlands, and the main body of flat land in the region is right across the border in Iran. Later in August there was another bit of unofficial information from a Russian military source: more than a thousand American tanks and armored vehicles had been shipped to Eastern Afghanistan by Ukrainian "Ruslans" flying in three to five shipments a day, and more flights were expected. Somehow all this, together with the series of articles in Izvestia, the information that all U.S. troops in Afghanistan are going to be reassigned and regrouped under unified command, the arrival of NATO naval ships in the Black Sea, the appointment of a man used to command troops in a combat environment as the new commander of the US Central Command and other bits and pieces. To my total astonishment, when they all fell together the Izvestia story started looking slightly more credible than before. Today the U.S. media reported that there had been a leak from the Pentagon about a secret Presidential order in which President Bush authorized his military (most of which is currently on Afghan soil) to conduct operations in Pakistan without the necessity for informing the Pakistani government. The U.S. military in Afghanistan - or shall we say in the whole region neighboring Iran - is getting a freer hand by the day. And it is getting more and more hardware to play with. Of course it's quite clear now that Georgia has lost its immediate potential as a nearby airfield, but after all, the aircraft carriers in the Gulf are not so far away. Believe me I'm not saying that the U.S. is going to start an all-out war against Iran tomorrow. But aren't there indications that it may happen the day after tomorrow, a month from now, or on any date before the official handover of Presidency in the U.S.? Or, as some suggest, before the election? I'm just asking the questions. But there are some people, like those working for Izvestia, for instance, who answer them with a "yes".

Q1- What is your evaluation of the current Iranian policy in general?

A1- One has to look at the fundamental nature of the clerical regime in order to understand its true and ultimate intentions. Since its advent in 1979, the regime’s leaders – starting with Khomeini himself – set out to export their radical ideology to the region and beyond. The primary mission (raison d’être) of the regime is to convert other regimes to its own mold with the goal of establish a modern-day Islamic Shi’ite Caliphate. It is so stated and defined in its Constitution as well as that of the Pasdaran’s (Revolutionary Guards).

To accomplish this, the regime has to a) maintain repression domestically; and b) create diversions internationally (region) to shift attention away from its own shortcomings.

Q2- Do you aim at regaining the throne of Iran?

A2- To me it is the content and not the form of Iran’s future government that matters most. My current political mission and role is the leading of a vigorous campaign against the clerical regime with the sole goal of forcing its demise, replacing it with a modern, secular, democratic parliamentary system. This mission will end, in its current form, the day my compatriots go to the polls and freely choose for themselves their desired form of representative government. Beyond that point, my fate will be decided by the Iranian people whom I stand ready to serve in whatever capacity they deem me fit.

Q3- How do you evaluate the recurring executions carried out in Iran?

A3- The regime maintains its suffocating grip over the citizens by using brute force and repression of dissent. Gruesome acts of public executions are barbaric methods and chilling reminders of the fate of dissenters in Iran. Through fear and humiliation, the regime commands submission. Public stoning of women and the execution of underage youth are revolting reminders of the regime’s callous disregard for human life, dignity and civility.

Q4- What is your vision of the relations of Arab countries with Iran?

A4- First and foremost, a democratic government which would inherently be answerable, accountable and responsible to its citizens would be compelled to create and maintain an atmosphere of warm and sincere relationship with its immediate neighbors. Coveted for our energy reserves, our region has been subject to the tugs of rivalries and manipulations between East and West, or North and South, as during the Cold War. Today we have a variation of the same conflicts manifesting themselves in different forms including the danger of militancy and proliferations of an arms race.

We must address our futures collectively by rebuilding our alliances, strengthening our cultural bonds, resolving old conflicts, and investing within the region. Time heals all wounds as strong roots breed new life. Our history and destinies are inseparable deeply rooted and a common bond of tradition. I am hopeful in my generation and have seen among my good friends in the region the real possibilities that await our horizon.

Q5- How do you find the Iranian threat to the gulf countries regarding using the sleeping cells to carry out violent actions?

A5- This is the unfortunate nature of the militant regime ruling my homeland. Its commitment to the export of its ideology takes many forms; the most troubling of which is the free use of terrorism and support of militancy as a tool of foreign policy. To reach its grand vision of Shi’aa hegemony, it will not hesitate to use any method necessary to convert its neighbors, even at the expense of destabilizing them.

Q6- Where do you classify Reza Pahlavi in the Iranian opposition list?

A6- Simply that my role is inclusively unique, in that I play a pivotal role in unifying all factions on common grounds and against one common enemy.

Q7- Do you expect an American attack against Iran?

A7- I have vociferously rejected and expressed my opposition to any kind of military action against my homeland! There is a much better way – far less costly and more legitimate – to put an end to the principal source of militancy in our region: Supporting the people of Iran, as the most natural ally to the free world in their quest to rid themselves of the clerical regime. A combination of domestic pressure coupled with a cohesive international economic and diplomatic pressure will enable the people of Iran, an “army in place,” to rid themselves of the regime. It however very much concerns me that due to the mounting domestic problems the regime is faced with, it may in fact invite and seek such a confrontation.

Q8- What is your stance regarding the Iranian nuclear activities?

A8- It is quite telling that the very same countries which used to compete with each other to sell nuclear energy technology to Iran prior to Islamic Republic are today joining force to impose sanctions on the clerical regime in an attempt to prevent it from possessing it! This issue is about transparency, trust and accountability.

The clerical regime’s three decade long track record, its totalitarian nature, its domestic repression, its support for terrorism, its regional adventurism and lack of transparency on the very subject has rightly caused the international community to suspect the regime’s intent.

The regime plays on the nationalistic argument of Iran’s sovereign right to the technology. They need to be reminded that Iran had that right before they came to power. As a matter a fact, it is their behavior which is the cause for Iran today to be denied the privilege. For a regime that has violated just about any international charter and regulations, they cannot invoke the NPT only when it suits their purpose, and violate it by the same token when it does not.

But let us understand the ultimate logic behind the regime’s quest for the bomb. Be it via manufacturing or acquisition, the clerical regime views the bomb as its key to survival. Why? Because it will serve as a counterweight to the inferiority of its conventional military capabilities against the West. Under a nuclear umbrella, the regime would be able to continue its support of terrorism, undermine the region, holding it hostage with the ultimate goal to institutionalize itself.

The question is can the world afford that moment? I do not think so.

Q9- What is your view of Arab ethnicities in Iran?

A9- Iran is a country of 70 million people. It has been for centuries a mosaic of different ethnic groups, cultures and religions. The richness of Iran’s civilization stems from the many cultures and ethnicities we have. Out identity is an actual collection and infusion of multiple unique identities that have lived together through the ages.

From my point of view, whether Kurdish, Arab, Balouch or Azari, whether Shia, Sunni, Christian or Jewish, every Iranian citizen has to feel and be equal under the law, with full protection and practical sense of common ownership and belonging to the nation. The only way to guarantee this is through the rule of law and practice of a democratic, secular Constitution based on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This is what I subscribe to, and have pledged to attain for my homeland.

Q10- Do you dream of being shah of Iran? If it happens, how will you deal with the gulf countries, especially Kuwait?

A10- I dream of helping liberate my homeland from this transient medieval system of clerical rule. It is the Iranian people whose dream and decision will determine the final form of our future constitution and government. Having said that, and in view of my homelands culture and history, I am confident that a modern constitutional monarchy, similar to that of Japan, Spain, UK and Sweden, will be perfectly capable in institutionalizing democracy and help usher in modernity, progress and development.

As to Iran’s regional policy, it will, of course, be set by our future government and shall be reflective of the will of the Iranian people who aspire to a strong bond and friendly relations with all our neighbors. Personally however I am fully certain that a different era awaits our region, one which will be based on friendship, security and prosperity for our peoples. Relationships are based on individual decisions and actions. My generation will not loose a day or an opportunity to reach out to our neighbors. We have little time to waist and it can only be spent on building friendship and trust, and not by breeding conflict.

As for Kuwait we are particularly proud of the strong bond and friendship that exits between our two people with so many of our families having built strong foundations of common heritage through extended multi-generational linkage.

Q11- What is your vision to the Iranian dispute with the Emirates over the three islands?

A11- Again, we have much more in common with our Emirate brothers than needs to be built upon. The era of conflict and confrontation will be replaced with one of trust, friendship and regional prosperity.

Q12- Do you think that Iran interferes negatively in the Iraqi issue?

A12- Clearly there is plenty of circumstantial as well as concrete evidence pointing to this fact. The reason for this is two folds: a) the clerical regime could not have sat aside idly and watch its neighbor set the precedence of stability, modernity and a secular democratic state; b) the ability to sustain chaos gives the Islamic republic to set the stage for an opportunity to replicate itself in a land which is home to Najaf and Karbala, shiism’s two holiest cities.

Author: Robert Baer ; This author made below remarks which makes his credentials as a Central Intelligence Agency officer questionable.

1. This author on prologue section page 1 claimed that in 1978 he was 24 years old young man and was on his way to India, as he had short stop in Iran, Tehran during Marshall laws. This author alleged that “the kamikaze taxi driver who drove me into Tehran from the airport that night taught me my first lesson: Iranians can't drive. The way he swoop and darted between the army patrols, I was convinced he was trying to draw fire. And was it legal to drive down the sidewalk to get around traffic?” Input: This sidewalk needed to be wide enough as well as accessible for a moving vehicle to drive on it because there is a big gap between road and sidewalk, and the author's statement would be impossible to do so since there is no such a sidewalk in Iran. 2. This author on page 55 alleged that “in October 2000, Ayatollah Khamenei, Ayatollah Khomeini's successor as supreme leader-the only real executive power in Iran-made it clear what the victory in Lebanon meant for Iran. It was during a secret address to Iran's National Security Council. After the usual long preamble, larded with quotations from the Koran, Khamenei put both hands on the conference table.” Input: Since he is an intelligent officer, he is required due to nature of his work to be detail orient, and should know that Khamenei's right hand is immobile. As a result, there are cloud of doubts looming on the book as how truthful is this author with his readers. This author contradicts himself on major points as follow.
1. This author on page 10 asserted that “and it wasn't as if the Iranian government could not close down the opium dens if it wanted to. Iran is a police state. Every day I drove around Tehran, or walked around the streets and bazaars, I was stopped and my papers checked.” On page 77 this author claimed that “Iran is not a totalitarian state run by “Islamofascists” who believe they're in some quixotic war with the West.” Input: Police state and totalitarian state shared same meaning as a state controls every fabric of a society, as this author experienced in Iran under rule of the mullah in Iran.
2. This author on page 207 claimed that “since 9/11, without any evidence, these people have tried to make the case that Muslims intend to infiltrate the United States, bring down from inside, and convert us to Islam.” On page 230-231 this author was talking with Muhammad British-Pakistani born who made a remark about 7/7 which was the way to go and “accept Allah's law,” he said. “End of story. Accept Allah's law and I think you'll have a peaceful life.” In other words, we either convert to Islam or die.” Input: There is a reality that Muslims are planning to convert Western nations to Islam or they have to die. Author's theory frame work for the cleric regime in Iran:
1. This author was working on theory of green belt or green crescent which was orchestra by former democrat president Jimmy Carter to contain communism in the region. As this author claimed that the cleric regime in Iran has infiltrated in Afghanistan, Lebanon, Palestine and Iraq and the regime in Iran was in charge of the situation in the region. Also, Turkey was under spill of the regime too but not as strongly as other region. As a result, the cleric regime in Iran is a superpower. This author lacked understanding the term superpower which means a state is in leading position in the international system and has ability to influence on international events. Current regime in Iran is not able to control international event, and has been struggling about its nuclear programs. The regime in Iran is not a great power either which would have economic, military, diplomatic and cultural strength. The current regime in Iran is a rouge state, which is an authoritarian regime, absent of human rights, and seeking weapon of mass destruction.
2. This author was claiming that the regime in Iran is no longer relying on terrorism to advance its interest. However, the cleric regime has been targeting Iranian dissidents and have been murdering them around the world.
3. This author on page 15 claimed that the US do not understand the regime in Iran because of Iranian dissidents are lobbying the White House and the White House does not have clear understanding of Iran. According to the record, so far element of the cleric regime on individual base or as a council like National Iranian American Council had opportunity to meet senior staffs and elected politicians, and to mislead the White House and not Iranian dissidents.
4. This author is working on fear tactic that price of oil on rise and on page 198 this author says it is in best interest of the US to negotiate with the regime in Iran. However, he does not provide any information or strategy how to negotiate with the regime in Iran. Author was bias toward Iran: 1. On page 9, this author claimed that there was no moral police officers in Iran. However, the regime has moral police officers who are enforcing Islamic dress code in Iran. 2. On page 104, this author wrote “the Iranians understand perfectly that the only reason we care about that miserable body of water called the Persian Gulf.” Input: This author is hostile toward Iranian identity.
3. This author claimed that during Iran-Iraq War youths were not given keys to paradise and asked to rush at enemy front and die. The key was a symbol of martyrdom. However, the regime gave the youth the keys and told them that these were keys to paradise. Validity of information: This author used, on page 143, statics about unemployment rate in Iran, and other data that it was unclear where the numbers were extracted from. Last, he alleged when in 1700's England's warship moved to Persian Gulf, this body of water was called Gulf and not Persian Gulf. The above claim was not reference from any source of information. The bottom line, this book does not have any kind of academic merit, and it tries to claim that the regime in Iran is a superpower and the US needs to negotiate and accept the regime in Tehran as a power. However, this author's theory lacks understanding proper meaning of political terms that the regime in Iran is a rouge state and not a superpower.

Elections in Iran : From Mossadegh to Ahmadinejad -04.03.2007

In the past as today, an occidental lobby has always tried to persuade the world that a kind of democracy would exist in Iran, the choices of the designated regime and the members, who consist in, would be only the wish of the Iranian people. In the past, at “blessed” time of Dr Mossadegh, we used to say that the Iranian people elected their nationalist leader, a personality democratically designated and overthrew by the “evil Shah”. But what was the reality? In the late 40’s, 80 % of Iranian population lived in rural areas (based on the census data extrapolation from 1936 to 1956). The peasants were bound to their lands and suffered in the facts from a serfdom regime, which has been abolished in 1963 by the same “evil Shah”. The “nationalist Dr Mossadegh”, also known as “Mossadegh-ol-Saltaneh” (Qajar Prince), was one of the most important landlords in Iran. He practised the serfdom and grew in wealth like his fellows during the famines of 1910’s (he was then 40 years old). These artificial famines were recurrent during the second part of XIX century (under Qajar reign) and stopped when Reza Shah took the power(Another “evil man” from the occident considerations). These famines, artificially maintained by the cereal speculators (such as the last Qajar king, Ahmad Shah, and the high clergy), reduced by half the Iranian population and transformed a prosperous country into one of the most miserable and poorest country in the world. Although having voting rights (granted by the constitution of 1906), the peasants did not vote, or when they did, they voted according to their Master’s instructions (the princes and the clergy). That is why the members of the Iranian National Assembly (the mejliss) were mainly consisted of important landlords (princes or mullahs) opposed to Pahlavis who were considered as annoying in their plans to have control over the richness of Iran.From the 20% remaining citizens, the half (the women) did not have voting right. They gained it only in 1963, granted again by the Shah against the alliance of the feudality and the clergy. (The clergy was also one of the most important owners of lands in Iran). Before 1963 and the Shah’s reforms, at last, only 10% of the population (any age) was capable to vote, even though, the participation was not so high that we could suppose. In 1951, Mossadegh, “our nationalist leader”, shared this poor electorate with the communists, the pro-palahvis, and the other political tendencies and was only representative at most of 3% of the Iranian population. In this context, talking about democracy would be abusive. Even if the sociological organization of Iran is nowadays very different, the same phenomenon is persisting, which means the non-representation of the electoral results. In fact, the peasantry does not represent 80% anymore but 20% of the overall population and, moreover, owns their own lands (thanks to the Shah who has abolished the feudality and the serfdom). This peasantry is now educated, (always thanks to the reformed fought by the clergy) and has the voting right, in the texts as in the facts. It is true to say that the women have also the voting right. But for whom can we vote in Iran? The occidental military-industrial lobby (which owns the press, at least in France) is favorable to the mullah’s regime and put forward the pretext of having elections as a proof of democratic political life in Iran. Except the journalists who want to preserve their job, and the experts who want to stay in the favor of this lobby, intellectuals perpetuate a misunderstood without being the direct beneficiaries of this system? (unless if they are attracted by a press career). But can we talk about democracy when the freedom of speech, the freedom of meeting, the freedom to create a political party and the freedom to run for elections are missing? The Iranians don’t vote anymore and those they do, it is only for having updated authority stamps on their identity card, avoiding by that to be annoyed in administrative tasks. The stir around elections in Iran seems to be, in these conditions, obscene and not appropriated.

آن که مردمان را از نیاز و دشواری برهاند

«شب چله»(یلدا) یا جشن زایش مهر، درازترین شب سال و شب زادن دوباره ی خورشید و آغاز فصل زمستان است که یادگاری هفت هزار ساله و ارزشمند از نیاکان فرهیخته ی مان به شمار می آید. ایرانیانی که هزاران سال پیش دریافتند که گاه‌شماری بر پایه ی ماه نمی‌تواند گاه‌شماری درستی باشد. پس به پژوهش درباره ی حرکت خورشید پرداختند و گاه‌شماری خود را بر پایه ی آن قرار دادند. ایشان حرکت خورشید را در برج‌های آسمان اندازه‌گیری کردند و برای هر برجی نام خاصی گذاشتند و دریافتند هنگامی که برآمدن خورشید با برآمدن برج «بره» در یک زمان باشد، بهار است و دریافتند که در ابتدای پاییز و بهار روز و شب برابر است و در ابتدای تابستان روز بلندتر از شب است. ایرانیان باستان گاه‌شماری خود را بر اساس چله (چهل روز) تقسیم کردند و 9 چله (ماه) داشتند.می دانیم که در فرهنگ ایرانیان عدد چهل مانند عدد هفت و دوازده قداست خاصی دارد. واژه‌های «چله نشستن»، «چل چلی» و در طبرستان واژه‌های «پیرا چله،‌ گرما چله» نشانه ی اهمیت این عدد در میان فرهنگ ایرانی است.امروزه برخی به اشتباه بر این گمانند که مراسم شب چله برای رفع نحوست بلندترین شب سال برگزار می‌شود، اما می‌دانیم که در باورهای کهن ایرانی هیچ روز و شبی، نحس و بد یوم شناخته نمی‌شده است و جشن شب چله، همچون بسیاری از آیین‌های ایرانی، ریشه در رویدادی کیهانی دارد.در گاهشماری ایرانی که دقیق ترین ِگاهشماری ها و سازگارترین ِآن ها با تقویم طبیعی است، همواره و در همه ی سال‌ها، شب چله و انقلاب زمستانی برابر با شامگاه سی‌ام آذرماه و بامداد یکم دی‌ماه است.

شب چله در آیین مهر

همان گونه که در پیش آمد، شب چله زاد روز ایزد مهر یا میترا است. نخستین روز زمستان به نام «خوره روز» (خورشید روز)، روز تولد مهر و نخستین روز سال نو بشمار می‌آمده است و امروزه کارکرد خود را در تقویم میلادی که ادامه ی گاهشماری میترایی است و حدود چهار سده پس از مبدا میلادی به وجود آمده، ادامه می‌دهد. کیش مهر (میتراییسم) تاثیر گذارترین آیینی است که پس از مهاجرت آریاییان در زمان فریدون به اروپای کنونی رفت و ردپای آن را در همه ی ادیان جهان می توان مشاهده کرد. کلمه ی یلدا واژه ای سریانی است و به معنای تولد یا میلاد است. در برخی منابع آمده است که پس از مسیحی شدن رومیان، چهارسد سال پس از تولد عیسی مسیح، کلیسا جشن تولد مهر را به عنوان زاد روز عیسی پذیرفت، زیرا زمان دقیق تولد وی معلوم نبود. در واقع یلدا یک جشن آریایی است و پیروان میتراییسم آن را از هزاران سال پیش در ایران برگزار می کرده اند. وقتی میتراییسم از تمدن ایران باستان به سایر جهان منتقل شد در روم و بسیاری از کشورهای اروپایی روز 21 دسامبر به عنوان تولد میترا جشن گرفته می شد ولی پس از قرن چهارم میلادی در پی اشتباه محاسباتی، این روز به 25 دسامبر انتقال یافت و از سوی مسیحیان به عنوان روز کریسمس جشن گرفته شد. از این روست که تا امروز بابا نوئل با لباس و کلاه مُغان ظاهر می شود و درخت سرو و ستاره ی بالای آن هم یادگاری از کیش مهر و فرهنگ ایرانی است.ابوریحان بیرونی، مبدا سالشماری تقویم کهن سیستانی را از آغاز زمستان ذکر کرده و جالب این که نام نخستین ماه سال در تقویم سیستانی نیز «کریست» بوده است . منسوب داشتن میلاد به میلاد مسیح، به قرون متأخرتر باز می‌گردد و پیش از آن، آنگونه که ابوریحان بیرونی در آثارالباقیه نقل کرده است، منظور از میلاد، میلاد مهر یا خورشید است. نامگذاری نخستین ماه زمستان و سال نو با نام «دی» به معنای دادار - خداوند از همان باورهای میترایی سرچشمه می‌گیرد. نخستین روز زمستان در نزد خرمدینانی که پیرو مزدک، قهرمان بزرگ ملی ایران بوده‌اند (که هنوز هم حامیان سرمایه‌داری لجام گسیخته اندیشه‌های عدالت‌جویانه او را سد راه منافع طبقاتی خود می‌دانند) سخت گرامی و بزرگ دانسته می‌شد و از آن با نام «خرم روز» یاد می‌کرده و آیین‌هایی ویژه داشته‌اند. این مراسم و نیز سالشماری آغاز زمستانی هنوز در میان برخی اقوام دیده می‌شود که نمونه آن تقویم محلی پامیر و بدخشان (در شمال افغانستان و جنوب تاجیکستان) است. همچنین در تقویم کهن ارمنیان نیز از نخستین ماه سال نو با نام «ناواسارد» یاد شده است که با واژه اوستایی «نوسرذه» به معنای «سال نو» در پیوند است.

آیین های برگزاری جشن شب چله

ایرانیان همواره شیفته ی شادی و جشن بوده اند و این جشن ها را با روشنایی و نور می آراستند. آن ها خورشید را نماد نیکی می دانستند و در جشن هایشان آن را ستایش می کردند. در درازترین و تیره ترین شب سال، ستایش خورشید نماد دیگری می یابد. مردمان سرزمین ایران با بیدار ماندن، طلوع خورشید و سپیده دم را انتظار می کشند تا خود شاهد دمیدن خورشید باشند و آن را ستایش کنند. در گذشته، آیین‌هایی در این هنگام برگزار می‌شده است که یکی از آن ها جشنی شبانه و بیداری تا بامداد و تماشای طلوع خورشید تازه متولد شده، بوده است. جشنی که از لازمه‌های آن، حضور کهنسالان و بزرگان خانواده، به نماد کهنسالی خورشید در پایان پاییز بوده است، و همچنین خوراکی‌های فراوان برای بیداری درازمدت که همچون انار و هندوانه و سنجد، به رنگ سرخ خورشید باشند.
از جمله آیین های این شب می توان به دورهم نشینی، فراهم کردن تنقلات و آجیل(لرک) و میوه های خشک، قصه گویی، فال حافظ، فال کوزه، و شعرخوانی (بیتو خوانی) اشاره کرد.

پرسش‌های ديگری كه مطرح است اين است كه چگونه بايد فعاليت كرد؛ با چه كسانی بايد صحبت كرد؛ چگونه بايد ارتباط برقرار كرد. اين برخورد بسيار سازنده‌تر است. «اصل صحبت من، نه تنها در بريتانيا بلكه در پارلمان اروپا هم اين بود، كه شما وارد شدن به يك ديالوگ را مطرح مي كنيد، اما اين ديالوگ طبق معمول به رژيم ايران محدود خواهد بود يا به نيروهای طرفدار دموكراسی و آزادی كه اكثريت جامعه ايران را تشكيل مي دهند هم گسترش خواهد يافت؟»
در صحبت‌های خود اشاره كرديد كه هدف‌تان ارتباط و صحبت با مردم ايران است و تغيير بايد از درون جامعه ايران روی دهد. چگونه می‌توانيد با مردم ايران اين ديالوگ را برقرار كنيد؟ در حال حاضر، به دليل خفقان موجود درايران، بيشتر ارتباطات زيرزمينی است [مثلا] از طريق تلفن و اينترنت. اين ارتباط با هسته‌های مختلف مقاومت و در بخش‌های مختلف اجتماعی در داخل كشور وجود دارد. آن چه كمبود آن در صحنه كاملا محسوس است، حداقل ساختار هماهنگی و مكانيزم رهبری اين برنامه است. در مجلس عوام بریتانیا گفتید كه در حال تهيه يک بسته سياسی برای گشودن راهی به سوی دموكراسی هستيد. برای تدوين اين، به گفته شما، بسته سياسی چه اقداماتی انجام گرفته است؟ يک پروژه مشترک ملی، كه گسترده‌ترين نيروهای سياسی كشور را در يک هدف مشترک در برگيرد، می‌تواند تنها راه باشد. اين اهداف مشترک را به صورت ساده بيان می‌كنم: ايجاد يك آلترناتيو دموكراسی سكولار پارلمانی در مقابل نظام [حکومتی فعلی ایران] ، [تهیه] يک قانون اساسی مبتنی بر اعلاميه جهانی حقوق بشر، [آماده‌سازی] يک پروسه انتخاباتی از طريق مجلس مؤسسان كه قانون اساسی آينده كشور را تدوين می‌كند. تمام فرم‌هايی كه اين سيستم می‌تواند داشته باشد مورد بررسي قرار می‌گيرد؛ اين كه نظام مشروطه باشد يا جمهوری يا فدرال. اين بار، بر خلاف ۳۰ سال پيش، مردم ايران بايد بدانند كه «نه» گفتن به اين سيستم [حکومتی فعلی] مهم‌ترين مسأله نيست، بلكه بدانند به چه چيزی می‌خواهند رأی بدهند. ابتدا اين مسايل بايد به طور مشخص بيان شده و زمينه های لازم برای تشكيل احزاب ايجاد شود. سقوط نظام مرحله بعدی است، اين كه دولت موقتی كه پس از اين مرحله تشكيل می‌شود، چگونه كشور را اداره خواهد كرد و چگونه زمينه‌های لازم را ايجاد خواهد كرد. اين‌ها دغدغه‌های مشترک همه كسانی است كه ممكن است در روز نهايی رأی آن‌ها با هم متفاوت باشد. اما بخش عظيمی از نيروهای مختلف عقيدتی و سياسی مردم در اين راه حل كه محتوای نظام [احتمالی سیاسی] بايد سكولار دموكراتيک باشد، هم‌سنگر هستند

What role for the West?

A Speech by Reza Pahlavi II

Ladies and Gentlemen,

It is a great pleasure for me to be with you this afternoon, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Henry Jackson Society in London as well as Gisela Stuart MP for helping to organize this meeting.

Let me start by saying that in my talk with you today, I wish to go beyond the designated issue of democracy and human rights in my country, and any role which the West might have in promoting them. This is because, democracy and human rights in Iran is today intricately tied with a number of other key issues such as nuclear proliferation, regional stability and finally, international peace and security. To be more specific, I wish to say that the threat that is posed to international security by the Islamic Republic of Iran, is precisely because of the fact that Iran is today governed by a brutal dictatorship, where the will of the majority is ignored and anyone who in any way challenges the decisions of the state are severely dealt with. It thus follows that the establishment of a democratic system of government in Iran that respects the human rights of its citizens will undoubtedly pave the way for removing Iran as a major source of international anxiety. The implications of such a transition are quite obvious for both the people of Iran as well as the wider international community. For the people of Iran, the establishment of a democratic government would mean that their country would cease being an international pariah. Moreover, it would mean that country’s vast resources would be mobilized for securing the future of the country by helping to cure its ailing economy instead of driving the nation to the brinks of an unwanted military confrontation with the international community over something ridiculous like uranium enrichment. Indeed a democratic government in Iran would invest in the people of Iran instead of investing in forces of instability and terror with whom they have bonded for promoting a militant anti-Western, and in particular, anti American agenda.

In my view, it thus follows that the West does have a role in seeing how this scenario develops. It can either stand aside or remain impervious to the plight of millions of my compatriots by trying to compromise with their oppressors or adopt a different, more ethical role of siding with them and helping them to attain their fundamental rights and basic freedoms.

Here, I wish to add that, in my view, there is no question that the prospect for change in the aftermath of the election victory of President Elect Barrack Obama, has already aroused a new atmosphere of great expectations on the part of people everywhere, including my homeland, who see his success as a new and promising catalyst for the construction of a new world order that is based on peace, freedom, justice and opportunity. Given his personal background, people – irrespective of their nationality or geographical circumstance – are hopeful that the new US president will be much more sensitive to the kind of problems and impediments which have held them back and compromised their honor and dignity at the same time.

The pertinent question, therefore, is whether such expectations are realistic or not? Another words, will it be business as usual where economic interest often trump human rights considerations or will we step into a new and different era with all its incumbent challenges?

Focusing on my country, it is fair to say that up until the last several weeks when world attention has been fixed on the ongoing international financial crisis, that Iran and Iran related issues – in one way or another – had consistently received a disproportionate share of attention in the world media. Iran’s obstinate disregard of numerous UN Security Council resolutions and various international warnings concerning its nuclear policy and ambitions has created a situation whereby the country has become increasingly isolated while creeping slowly to the edges of an unwanted military conflict. It is also true to say that while certain parties in the West have periodically responded to Iranian disregard for international pressures such as those demanded by the Security Council and others that were more diplomatically conveyed in the ‘5+1’ meetings, by insisting that “all options are on the table”, there is a general sense that warnings of this nature are more indicative of rising frustration rather than clear intent.

It is clear that so far, the ‘5+1’ policy in halting Iran’s uranium enrichment program has failed to achieve its objectives, since neither the promise of inducements nor the threat of punishments have been sufficient to convince the Islamic leaders to change direction. It is in finding itself in such a situation, when its repackaged incentive offer has been effectively turned down, and in circumstances when the ‘5+1’ have been unable to be more robust in imposing stricter sanctions against the clerical regime, that the debate regarding ‘cooperation or confrontation’ with Iran is once again being revived.

Now, when we speak of ‘cooperation or confrontation’, there is no question that everyone would prefer ‘cooperation’ to ‘confrontation’. The most obvious factor is whether it is possible to arrive at an acceptable ‘modus vivendi’ with Iran or not? Here, it is essential once again, to take note that in the case of Iran’s nuclear file, the West has been engaged in negotiations with Iran for over 5 years, where the Europeans in particular have gone to extreme lengths in order to arrive at some form of a compromise. Their failure is due to the fact that their offers of incentive have been insufficient to commit the Iranians to observing their ‘red-lines’.

Thus, in very simple terms, unless the US and the EU are willing to re-draw the very ‘red-lines’ that they have marked of their own accord, then prospects for cooperation would appear to be very dim. No doubt if the ‘5+1’ were willing to live with a nuclear Iran, it would inevitably lead to a major proliferation of nuclear weapons in the Middle East, making the region a greater powder keg than it already is, then I am sure that the current crises could be resolved ‘cooperatively’. A recent study produced by the Institute for Security Studies of the European Union makes specific recommendations to this effect. But this is not a formula that I would recommend.

Here, I wish to be very candid with you: I believe that while one must strive for making every effort to make cooperation work, one cannot avoid confrontation by behaving expediently or by compromising one’s own principles. I believe that the majority of honored guests here this afternoon are well familiar with the history of the 1930s when the will to cooperate in an attempt to avoid conflict, blinded responsible politicians and eventually forced them into a much more costly confrontation which they had tried so hard to avoid in the first place!

So what can be done or should be done? Will cooperation be the way forward or is there no choice other than confrontation?

Today, the diplomatic ‘buzz word’ seems to be ‘engagement’. The obvious inference from this is that the US, in particular, should no longer insist on any preconditions and be ready to open direct talks with Iran. Here, it must be reiterated that perhaps for more than two decades we had a reverse situation, where the US was willing to come to the table but it was the Islamic regime that had the preconditions.

It is interesting to point out that while Iran has been clamoring for some time for direct talks with the US, and as signs have appeared that moves towards that end are now being seriously contemplated by the new Obama administration, another spanner was recently thrown into this mind-boggling equation by one of Ahmadinejad’s close advisers in Teheran who said that Iran will only talk with “the US when it has left the Middle East and ended its support for the Zionist regime”!

Most proponents of this line of thinking – perhaps wishfully, nourish the prospect that once direct negotiation starts than all contentious issues that have led to an estrangement of relations between Iran and the US, which have also indirectly affected Iran-EU relations, may in time become resolved.

In this context, quite apart from issues of primary concern to a majority of Iranians who aspire to live in a society that is free and humane with all its incumbent paraphernalia, the Iranian regime would be expected to modify its behavior on such issues as its nuclear aspirations, active engagement in international terrorism and finally, its menacing and destabilizing activities in places like Lebanon, Palestine, Iraq, Afghanistan and the Persian Gulf region.

But, is this a realistic expectation, given the nature of the Islamic Republic and the fact that for the past 30 years, militant anti-Americanism across the board has been the very foundation of its foreign policy? I certainly hope that the next US administration would give proper consideration to such realities. Most importantly, I feel that everyone in the West and in particular the US, would have a much clearer picture of issues, if they made a serious attempt at seeing matters from the prism of the Islamic leadership in Iran and not just their own wishes and priorities. I accept that this is not an easy challenge, but it is crucial and until such time that an effort has been made in this direction, there is no reason to hope that future policy decisions will be any better than those made in the past 30 years.

Having said all that let me make it clear that I am strongly opposed to any form of military action against my country. But for diplomacy to succeed, the aims as well as the obstacles to any intended objective needs to be carefully assessed and above all understood. Moreover, it is imprudent and self defeating if the West was to constantly find itself in a position of having to re-draw its own red lines.

Here, it is also essential that the ideological divide that separates the Iranian regime from the Iranian people as well as the wider world be also taken into account.

I would like to elaborate this point by suggesting that a consequence of the Islamic regime’s estrangement with its own people who are without doubt its ‘Achilles’ Heel’ in the course of the last three decades, has been the main impetus behind what I call its policy of ‘entrenchment’ in the Middle East region and beyond. In other words, as the regime gradually lost its popularity and legitimacy at home, it felt the need to hold some cards outside Iran for the obvious reason of fending off external pressures that might threaten its very existence.

Now let me say a few words about matters inside Iran. Despite its seemingly confident and secure outlook, the Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI) is in fact more vulnerable and damage prone than ever before in its 29 years of existence. The effects of the UN Security Council sanctions have already affected the country’s economy by having a significant impact on the private sector, while the imposition of gasoline rationing as well as the recently introduced VAT charges, have resulted in huge public protests that have led to unexpected strikes and violence.

In previous years, the IRI has successfully been able to ‘ride through’ a number of serious crises, a factor that is a mark to their resilience as well as the support base on which their order was initially constructed. Nonetheless, the number of difficult circumstances which the regime has confronted in previous years have taken their toll. Moreover, the mass exodus of its most skilled and experienced entrepreneurs, managers, bureaucrats and educated elites have contributed greatly to a major mismanagement crisis across the board, resulting in a tremendous fall in the per capita income of all Iranians.

Today, the clerical regime’s support base is at best no more than 10-15% of our population. In times of emergency, such as election times and the like, using the resources of our country, they are able to mobilize another similar figure. What this means is that in the course of the last three decades, the regime has alienated the rest of the population and is thus fearful of any circumstance that might lead to the mobilization of those it can no longer persuade.

Also,

while Iran is perhaps the cradle of modern day ‘Islamic Fundamentalism’, it is an accepted fact that despite its general rhetoric, none of the regime’s sanctimonious pronouncements have any bearing on the conduct of every day life amongst the Iranian people. Indeed, there should be no doubt in anyone’s mind that, although a theocracy in name, Iran is today governed like most other secular dictatorships that the world has known, since people only obey the likes of Khamenei and Ahmadinejad, not because of their special relationship with the almighty, but simply out of fear or economic need.

This development is a natural consequence of successive years of failure by the regime to improve economic conditions, and to relax social and civil society demands in a milieu where 70% of the population is below the age of 30 and well versed with the desires and aspirations of their contemporaries in other parts of the world and in particular, the West.

In the sphere of foreign policy, because of its intransigence over its nuclear file, the IRI has never been under such international pressure since its very inception.

In the past 12 months, a total of four UN Security Council Resolutions have warned and subsequently punished Iran for its continued defiance of the international will.

Moreover, it is thought unlikely that Islamic Republic will ever accept any compromise involving a complete halt to its uranium enrichment program.

Iran’s current stand off with the international community is also exacerbated by other factors such as Iran’s continued reliance on resort to Terrorism – both direct and indirect – for the advancement of its foreign policy objectives which have further increased tensions with the US and its various allies in places like Iraq, Lebanon, Palestine and Afghanistan.

In summary,

for more than a year now, the Islamic Republic of Iran has been in the midst of two extraordinary and dangerous crises.

First, the amount of international pressure on Iran because of its uncompromising stance over its nuclear agenda, and

second, the country’s domestic crisis fueled mainly as a consequence of its faltering economy, have both been unprecedented.

As we speak, the pressures from these quarters have not declined, and there are no immediate signs that this crisis will be coming to an end any time soon.

How this crisis comes to an end is, nevertheless, a matter of supreme importance not just to the Islamic leadership in that it can mean survival or the beginning of the end for them, but for the West, given that it now has the opportunity for tilting the balance in favor of forces of democracy, progress and human rights.

Seen from the stand point of the West,

I should like to point out that in the course of the past 30 years, there have been a series of confusing signals which have simply complicated matters.

Focusing in particular on the US, there is little wonder that rhetoric and posturing should have eclipsed meaningful policy based on reality.

As a result, there have been great many vacillations over the years that have ranged from accommodation and cooperation to regime change.

Perhaps what lies at the heart of this problem – something which I believe to be a especially central issue for the new US administration – is the need to come up with a clear and robust policy that is capable of dealing effectively with Iran.

From the perspective of the EU and next US administration, while any talk of regime change – something that in any case is only the business of the Iranian people – may be set aside, securing Iranian compliance or cooperation over a whole host of critical issues highlighted by the current nuclear impasse will remain a clear priority.

Indeed, dealing with some of these critical problems is widely expected to be the first major foreign policy challenges of the new Obama administration.

Finally, I would like to leave you with this thought:

In the last 30 years, since the advent of the Islamic regime in Iran, we have seen a sizable expansion in the number of highly destructive conflicts that have raged in the Middle East spanning from Afghanistan to the Eastern shores of the Mediterranean.

As we speak, there are some unfinished conflicts that still continue to threaten the peace and stability of the region as well as the prospects of all future generations living in the Middle East.

What has happened in the last 30 years is history.

But looking to the future it is important to note that the Islamic regime, and the regional friends and allies it has been able to cultivate, have a vision of life and society that is in stark contrast with the majority of other regional governments and their allies which includes the EU and the US.

To move forward positively, it is crucial for the West not to once again indulge itself in tactics that have been tried and tested before, and seen to fail.

Therefore, bearing in mind all that has been said, and given the fact that we are living in an increasingly interdependent environment, it should be apparent that Without a creative new policy supported by robust diplomatic efforts that encompasses a role for the overwhelming majority of Iranians who do not share the visions and values of their current rulers, nothing will change.

A policy of misplaced cooperation will be tantamount to capitulation, except for the fact that the ultimate cost of confrontation will most likely increase with time.

The only meaningful policy would be to engage the Iranian people and invite them to be part of a new and imaginative policy which will guarantee Iran’s territorial integrity, freedom of choice and democratic expression plus a respect for individual human rights.

در مجلس عوام بریتانیا گفتید كه در حال تهيه يک بسته سياسی برای گشودن راهی به سوی دموكراسی هستيد. برای تدوين اين، به گفته شما، بسته سياسی چه اقداماتی انجام گرفته است؟

يک پروژه مشترک ملی، كه گسترده‌ترين نيروهای سياسی كشور را در يک هدف مشترک در برگيرد، می‌تواند تنها راه باشد.

اين اهداف مشترک را به صورت ساده بيان می‌كنم: ايجاد يك آلترناتيو دموكراسی سكولار پارلمانی در مقابل نظام [حکومتی فعلی ایران] ، [تهیه] يک قانون اساسی مبتنی بر اعلاميه جهانی حقوق بشر، [آماده‌سازی] يک پروسه انتخاباتی از طريق مجلس مؤسسان كه قانون اساسی آينده كشور را تدوين می‌كند.

تمام فرم‌هايی كه اين سيستم می‌تواند داشته باشد مورد بررسي قرار می‌گيرد؛ اين كه نظام مشروطه باشد يا جمهوری يا فدرال.

اين بار، بر خلاف ۳۰ سال پيش، مردم ايران بايد بدانند كه «نه» گفتن به اين سيستم [حکومتی فعلی] مهم‌ترين مسأله نيست، بلكه بدانند به چه چيزی می‌خواهند رأی بدهند.

ابتدا اين مسايل بايد به طور مشخص بيان شده و زمينه های لازم برای تشكيل احزاب ايجاد شود.

سقوط نظام مرحله بعدی است، اين كه دولت موقتی كه پس از اين مرحله تشكيل می‌شود، چگونه كشور را اداره خواهد كرد و چگونه زمينه‌های لازم را ايجاد خواهد كرد.

اين‌ها دغدغه‌های مشترک همه كسانی است كه ممكن است در روز نهايی رأی آن‌ها با هم متفاوت باشد. اما بخش عظيمی از نيروهای مختلف عقيدتی و سياسی مردم در اين راه حل كه محتوای نظام [احتمالی سیاسی] بايد سكولار دموكراتيک باشد، هم‌سنگر هستند.

*بابک امیر خسروی(عضو کمیتهء مرکزی حزب توده): با اطمينان می‌توان گفت كه در تاريخ جنبش‌های سياسی در جهان، هرگز هيچ حزب و سازمان سياسی سراغ نداريم كه توانسته باشد آن همه افسر را در يك حزب غير قانونی با ايدئولوژی كمونيستی گرد آورده باشد.

*ستوان مهاجرانی(عضو سازمان افسران حزب توده ومحافظ مخصوص سرلشکر زاهدی):« بعضی اوقات جلسهء هيأت وزيران در باغی ـ در قيطريه ـ تشكيل می‌شد كه همگی در فضای باز،دُور ميزی می‌نشستند و من روی تپّه‌ای كه مُشرف به باغ بود، پشت مسلسل موضع‌گيری كرده و هيأت وزيران و نخست‌وزير(سرلشکرزاهدی) در تيررس ِ آتش ِ من بودند. و يا اينكه در سفری كه زاهدی به اصفهان داشت، هنگام شب در منزل كازرونی بيتوته كرد و من تا صبح ، سلاح در دست، پُشت اطاق ِ خوابش كشيك می‌دادم».

اشاره:
نقش حزب توده و خصوصاً سازمان افسران آن در جریانات منجر به 28 مرداد 32 از نکات بسیار مهم و در عین حال مبهمی است که هنوز بطور شایسته به آن پرداخته نشده .نگارنده در کتاب «دکترمحمّد مصدّق؛آسیب شناسی یک شکست» به گوشه هائی از این مسئله پرداخته است.بعبارت دیگر: یکی از محوری ترین یا مهمّ ترین بخش های این کتاب، توجهء نویسنده به نیروی حیرت انگیز «سازمان افسران حزب توده» و نقش آن در رویدادهای 25-28 مرداد 32 می باشد (از جمله دستگیری غیر منتظرهء سرهنگ نصیری توسّط یکی از اعضای «سازمان افسران حزب توده» بهنگام ابلاغ فرمان شاه مبنی برعزل مصدّق و نیز، تهیّه و تکمیل نقشه ها و کروکی های پادگان های مهمّ تهران برای یک کودتای احتمالی).

نگارنده، در بخش ِ «نقش و نقشهء دیگر ِ مصدّق در 28 مرداد »، نشان می دهد که دکتر مصدّق - با هوشیاری، خِرَدمندی و وطن پرستی بسیار – پس از دیدار با هندرسون(سفیر آمریکا ) ، ضمن خالی کردن میدان در روز28مرداد32 ، انتصاب خواهر زادهء خود (سرتیپ محمّد دفتری) به سِمتِ رئیس شهربانی کل کشور و نیز فرماندار نظامی تهران، و با فراخواندن هواداران خود برای تَرک تهران یا ماندن در خانه های شان در روز 28 مرداد، و یا با انفعال و عدم درخواست کمکِ مردمی از طریق رادیو (با وجود اصرار و پافشاری دکتر فاطمی و دیگر یاران مصدّق)، کوشید تا ایران را از یک جنگ داخلی برَهانَد و یا از افتادن ایران به چنگ ِ«سپاه عظیم و رزم دیدهء توده ای ها» (بقول بابک امیر خسروی) جلوگیری کند و......
در زیر،بخش پایانی مربوط به سازمان افسران حزب توده و قدرت حیرت انگیز آن در آستانهء رویداد 28مرداد 32را می خوانیم.

بابك امير خسروی (عضو كميتهء مركزی حزب توده) كه از سازمان افسران حزب توده بعنوان «سپاه ِ عظيم و رزم‌ديدهء توده‌ای‌ها» ياد می‌كند1، ضمن گزارش دقيق و مفصّل خود می‌نويسد:
«تقسيم‌بندی افسران حزب توده به رسته‌هائی چون هوائی، توپخانه، سوار، پياده، ژاندارمری، شهربانی، دانشجوی افسری و... بيانگر آنست كه حزب توده در همهء اركان و زوايای ارتش ـ حتّی در گارد جاويدان شاهی ـ رخنه كرده بود. آنچه واقعاً اهميـّت دارد، بررسی اين امر است كه پُشت ِ سر ِ اين ارقام: 125 افسر توپخانه، 180 افسر پياده، 59 افسر شهربانی و غيره، چه مقدار تانك و نيروی زرهي و امكانات فرماندهی و مواضع حسّاس و اطّلاعاتی نهفته بود... با اطمينان می‌توان گفت كه در تاريخ جنبش‌های سياسی در جهان، هرگز هيچ حزب و سازمان سياسی سراغ نداريم كه توانسته باشد آن همه افسر را در يك حزب غير قانونی با ايدئولوژی كمونيستی گرد آورده باشد... سازمان افسران از يك جهت، واقعاً افسانه بود، البتّه نه به معنای قصّه و داستان بلكه به علّت امكانات و قدرتِ واقعاً فوق‌العاده و باورنكردنی‌اش به افسانه‌ای حماسی می‌ماند. وقتی سازمان (افسران) كشف شد، حتّی توده‌ای‌ها را به حيرت انداخت... درصد قابل توجـّهی از افسران جوان رزمی، فرماندهان تانك‌های «شرمن» به اضافهء برخی فرماندهان ردهء بالاترِ ارابهء جنگی، از اعضاء سازمان افسری بودند...»2
فريدون آذرنور (از افسران بلندپايهء سازمان) می‌نويسد:
«تمام 243 عضو سازمان افسران در تهران، در روز 28 مرداد در انتظار دستور از بالا بودند كه وارد عمل شوند. در بين آن‌ها، 29 افسر هوائي، 7 افسر توپخانه، 9 افسر سوار، 17 افسر پياده، 25 افسر مهندس، 23 افسر ژاندارمری بودند كه هركدام متناسب با وضع شغلی، امكانات خود را داشتند و...». سرگرد آذرنور توضيح می‌دهد:
«دربارهء نقش افسران شهربانی ِ عضو سازمان كه هركدام از آنها منشاء عمليـّات مهـّم شدند و غالباً موقعيـّت ممتازی داشتند، تاكنون سكوت شده است. تعداد آنها در تهران 24 نفر و در تمام كشور 47 نفر بود. دو نمونه‌ای كه از نزديك با آنها آشنا شده‌ام بيان می‌كنم: مثلاً سروان جواد درميشيان ـ يكی از اعضاء سابقه‌دار سازمان نظامی(حزب توده) و رئيس كلانتری ناحيهء شاپور (سبزه ميدان) دارای نفوذ فراوانی بر رو ی شعبان بی‌مخ بود كه دستورات او را كودكانه اجرا می‌كرد، و يا تظاهرات اوباش در ناحيهء 10 صورت می‌گرفت كه رياست آن به عهدهء سروان جواد صادقی ـ يكی از افسران با اتوريته، قدرت فرماندهی و مديريـّت استثنائی ـ بود كه علاوه بر عضويـّت فعـّال در سازمان افسران، يكی از طرفداران و ارادتمندان پر و پا قرص دكتر مصدّق بود».
فرماندهی تانك‌های مستقر در اطراف منزل نخست‌وزير به عهدهء علی اشرف شجاعيان (عضو سازمان افسران حزب توده) بود. سرهنگ ممتاز در بارهء او مي‌گويد: «شجاعيان روز 28 مرداد، حماسه آفريد، در حالی كه زخمی شده بود، با تانك ِ خود تا آخرين گلوله جنگيد و تلفات سنگينی بر مزدوران شاهنشاهی وارد ساخت».3
ستوان يكم ايرج ايروانی عضو سازمان افسران حزب توده، فرماندهی بخشی از تانك را بر عهده داشت. وی روز 28 مرداد، بدون اينكه دستوری از حزب دريافت كند، در خيابان‌های تهران سرگردان بود و عاقبت، وقتی كار ِ آشوبگران بالا گرفت، تانك او نيز در خدمت كودتاچيان قرار می‌گيرد و در يورش به خانهء مصدّق به كار می‌رود.
فريدون آذرنور (كه در آن ايـّام مسئول ايالتی سازمان افسری در آذربايجان بود) در سخن از طرح تدارك قيام مسلّحانه در تبريز می‌نويسد:
«سازمان افسران می‌توانست با كمك 500 توده‌ای زُبده، با چند عمليات هماهنگ، تبريز را بطور كامل تسخير كند». وی توضيح می‌دهد كه اين تعهـّد سنگين بر اين اساس به عمل آمده بود كه از يك گردان مستقل توپخانهء 105 كوتاه آمريكائی كه از 4 آتشبار تشكيل می‌شد، سه نفر از فرماندهان از جمله ستوان يكم توپخانه كريم زندوانی، عضو سازمان افسری بودند و نفر چهارم افسر به كلّی بيطرفی بود. از يگانه هنگ رزمی در تبريز، چهار فرمانده گروهان، از جمله گروهان مأمور دژبان شهر (سروان پياده حسن سديدی و حسين زاده صديقی) و فرودگاه، فرمانده واحد كوماندو (سرگرد فريدون آذرنور)، واحد زرهپوش هنگ را رفيق ما سروان محمد صادق دلير آذر فرماندهی می كردند. فرماندهء ارابه‌های جنگی از هواخواهان ما و معاون دژبان كه افسر بانفوذی در شهر و درعين حال فرماندهء واحد دژبان، عضو سازمان افسری بودند. فرمانده گروهان مهندسی لشكر (سروان مهندس ابوالقاسم اويسی) و سه نفر از افسران شهربانی از جمله ستوان يكم عبـّاس افراخته و مقدّم ـ رئيس رمز شهربانی ـ عضو سازمان افسری بودند و دو نفر ديگر هركدام بنوبه، از مسئولين نگهبانی زندانيانی بودند كه تسليح 450 زندانی ِ فرقه [منظور زندانيان فرقهء دموكرات آذربايجان پس از شكست آن در آذر 1325 است] و آماده نمودن ِ آنها برای هرگونه عمليـّاتی بعهدهء آنان بود. چهار نفر از افسران كادر فرماندهی نيز جزو اعضای آزمايشی و يا هوادار ِ(سازمان افسران حزب توده) بودند».4
آذرنور سپس اطّلاعات كوتاهی در مورد لشكر اروميه مي‌دهد:
«اضافه بر فرماندهان واحدهای كوچك ـ كه اغلب آن‌ها عضو سازمان افسری حزب توده بودند ـ می‌توان سرهنگٍ ستاد صديق يحيوی (فرماندهء هنگ سوار و پادگان سلماس)، سرگرد يعقوبی (فرماندهء گُردان و پادگان قره‌تپه)، سرهنگ دوّم صالح نجات (فرماندهء هنگ پيادهء رزمی اروميه) و سرهنگ جاويد (رئيس ركن 2 لشكر رضائيه و آجودان مخصوص شاه) را نام برد...»5
سروان محمـّد جعفر محمـّدی در تأييد نظر سرگرد آذرنور بر نيرومندی سازمان افسری، چند مورد ديگر را كه خود بر آنها آگاهی دارد، می‌افزايد. سروان محمـّدی مي نويسد:
«چهار نفر از افسران سازمان با درجات سرهنگ دوّم پياده (فتح‌الله پهلوان)، سرگرد پياده (عنايت‌الله پهلوان)، ستوان يكم توپخانه (قدرت‌الله پهلوان) و ستوان يكم هوائی (كامبيز دادستان) از خاندان سلطنتي بودند. سروان مهدی همايوني (از گارد سلطنتی شاه) از افراد نفوذی در ميان كودتاچيان بود... سروان پولاد دژ، از افسران برجستهء ركن دو (اطلاعات) و از همكاران نزديك سرتيپ تيمور بختيار و بسيار مورد اعتماد و مُشير و مُشار او بود... ستوان يكم عبدالله مهاجرانی از اعضاء سازمان افسری با واحد تحت فرماندهی‌اش، محافظ سرلشكر زاهدی كه خودِ او را اسكورت می‌كرد. مهاجرانی پس از لو رفتن سازمان، در زندان می‌گفت:
«هر موقع زاهدی می‌خواست بخوابد، مرا صدا می‌كرد و می‌گفت: عبدالله من نياز دارم دو سه ساعتی استراحت كنم، تو آماده هستي؟ و من جواب می‌دادم: «بخواب تيمسار! راحت باش!»... و تيمسار با آرامش كامل بخواب می‌رفت و من روی صندلی پشت اتاق او تا ساعت بيداری‌اش می‌نشستم و از او مراقبت می‌كردم»6
هنگامی كه زاهدی همراه با اسكورتش به اصفهان رفته بود، ليست افسران سازمان نظامی كشف می‌شود كه نام عبدالله مهاجرانی نيز در شمار ِآنها بود. از تهران به اصفهان تلگرافی دستور داده می‌شود عبدالله مهاجرانی بازداشت شود. زاهدی متوحّش می‌شود و تصـّور می‌كند عليه او كودتائی رخ داده است از بازداشت عبدالله جلوگيری ميیكند. سپس از تهران تلگراف حضوری می‌شود و زاهدی در تلگراف‌خانه حضور می‌يابد و از جريان دستيابی به دفتر رمز اسامی افسران سازمان نظامی آگاه می‌شود كه نام عبدالله مهاجرانی نيز در آن ثبت بود. همان دَم از عبدالله سئوال می‌كند جريان چيست، دستور بازداشت تو را می‌دهند؟ اگر چيزی هست الآن بگو تا كمكت كنم. عبدالله جواب می‌دهد: «تيمسار! من در هيچ جريان و سازمانی نيستم، سوءتفاهم است برطرف می‌شود». 7
ستوان مهاجرانی، بازداشت و روانهء زندان می‌شود... او در دادگاه به حبس ابد محكوم شد و پس از 5 سال از زندان آزاد گرديد و به تلافی ِ تيری كه در مغز زاهدی شليك نكرده بود، به سفارش اردشير زاهدی، در سازمان امور استخدامی كشور، استخدام و در پايان، بازنشسته می‌شود. ستوان يكم مهاجرانی، خود می‌گويد:
ـ «تقريباً يك ماه بعد از 28 مرداد با يك دسته از ژاندارمری، مأمور حفاظت سرلشكر زاهدی شدم. ولی محافظين نخست‌وزير كودتا از سه نيرو تأمين می‌شدند: لشكر گارد، شهربانی و ژاندارمری. من موقعی كه زاهدی در باشگاه افسران مستقر شده بود مأمور انجام آن شدم. سازمان نظامی از مأموريت من باخبر بود، بخاطر ندارم كه در بارهء ترور زاهدی به سازمان نظامی مطلبی گفته باشم. لكن با ايمانی كه به هدف خود و حزب داشتم، اگر دستوری در اين مورد می‌رسيد اجرا می‌كردم. مثلاً: بعضی اوقات جلسهء هيأت وزيران در باغی ـ در قيطريه ـ تشكيل می‌شد كه همگی در فضای باز،دور ميزی می‌نشستند و من روی تپّه‌ای كه مُشرف به باغ بود، پشت مسلسل موضع‌گيری كرده و هيأت وزيران و نخست‌وزير در تيررس ِ آتش ِ من بودند.... و يا اينكه در سفری كه زاهدی به اصفهان داشت، هنگام شب در منزل كازرونی بيتوته كرد و من تا صبح با سلاح در دست، پشت اطاق خوابش كشيك می‌دادم»8
در برابر ِ اين «سپاه ِعظيم و رزم ديدهء توده‌ای‌ها»، دكتر مصدّق ـ بعنوان وزير دفاع ـ بخاطر عدم ارتباط با بدنهء ارتش ـ در بی‌اطلاعی يا بی‌خيالی حيرت‌انگيزی، با طعنه و تمسخر، به شاه گفته بود:
ـ «حزب توده حتّی يك تفنگ هم نداشت تا چه رسد به تانك [لذا] پناهندگی شاهنشاه در كلاردشت (رامسر) از ترس يك عده كمونيست ِ بی‌اسلحه و تانك، حاكی از كمال تهـّور و شهامت بود!»9
